Yep, figured as much...

I told my Sales Agent why I opted out of the wireless charger. He was confused at first... but then after the explanation, he was like.. ahh.. switched the subject lol.

To be fair to Apple, my 14P also does that. And also did so in my wife's M340i charging tray. So does her 13 Mini.

Yeah, I had the same issue with my 14 PM. I don’t think it’s an Apple issue.

Every wireless charger I've ever used gets my iPhone warm. I think the last 2 or 3 models I've had have had it?

Including the wireless charger in my wife's 540i and my old '19 MB E450.

None of them have worked well in terms of charging the phone beyond 1%-2% above when it is connected. But they all work well to keep the current charge on the phone.

Good thing is for people to report it at this point - sounds like more data needs to be collected.

There's a member here who built and sells a fan that sits next to the phone. It does help keep the temp down.

Mine doesn’t have wireless charging, but my 2019 X3 does. It makes our 12s heat up as well as the previous Xrs. Like others have said, it basically keeps it a few percent above where it was, unless itya real long drive, but the real issue in the X3, is the phone can easily move off target and stop charging at all. Any plug in works many times better, especially if I were to use Waze. I use the keyless virtual iphone key a lot (so far) in my Z4, so it’s far better to not have a wireless charger so it doesn’t overheat.

The overheating is not an Apple issue, however the NFC components failing due to it is 100% Apple's fault (they should design around wonky wireless chargers).

Not sure about that. I don't think they have their own NFC chip. Doesn't matter what it is, you can't design something to not fail if it gets too hot...

The phone should be able to use the mechanisms established in the Qi protocol to manage the charging rate so temperatures don't reach dangerous levels. The Qi standard recommends that the power level be adjusted or checked at least every 100 milliseconds.

Now, if the BMW charger is ignoring those power adjustment requests *that* could be a problem. However, it could also be that the change to have the back of the phone be titanium instead of glass/aluminum/plastic could be causing the signal from the phone to the charger (which uses loading of the receiver coil to modulate a signal to the transmitter) to not be as strong because titanium is a worse conductor than those, and is also slightly magnetic.

The back of the phone is still glass. Either way, I saw an update released today for the phone. Fingers crossed it works!

17.0.3 claims to resolve the overheating issue. I installed it on the wife's 13 Pro earlier today and 17.1 Public Beta 2 on my 15pm but I can't yet determine if the overheating solution was rolled into Beta 2.

For the first time, I have had issue with the charger . . .new iPhone 15, overheating, nowhere near as hot ambient as has been when no issues with earlier iPhones. Feel like I am finally part of the wirelesschargerisuseless camp. I know, updated IOS, but still feel much warmer than with earlier phones.

There’s at least one person on this thread that is on 17.0.3 and still had the phone overheat and break the NFC. https://g29.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2052253&page=6

Wireless Charing in a car is useless

I have had it work a few times but for the most part it does not work with the any phone I have used whether it be Google Pixel or Apple. I think the current design of the phone with the huge camera bumps on the rear leaves the phone to far away from the coils to be effective which is probably the reason for a lot of the overheating issues.

14 Pro had a glass back too. You can’t do wireless charging through a metal back.

That’s good to know, it certainly doesn’t look like it’s glass…

some men are such pansies. even worse are those who think they know it all but actually know nothing yet can't admit it or acknowledge it when called out. this is how misinformation is spread. it isn't good for the forum

still waiting on your knowledge on the other thread, oh Wise One
