Good timing

I spec'd a Z4 M4.0i a few days ago and then contacted my local dealer to see how long it would take to get. My dealer called me back and said you are not going to believe this but your exact spec was just built and is getting ready to be shipped from Germany to Oxnard, CA. After a successful dealer trade, my SA said it is mine.

The only thing that turned out not to be 'exact' was the red calipers. Since I opted for a Magma Red interior, I thought they would go well, instead the car is fitted with the blue calipers which I think will still look fine.

Question now is how long is it going to take to get to my dealership? The car is waiting at the port for a vessel assignment. Does anyone have any insight into how long this may take?

Thanks,
Phil

Mine was at the port for almost 6 weeks this spring. Once on the boat, took about 12 days to get to the port in the US, but mine went to an east coast port. Bet it’s closer to 3 weeks for the trip to CA. From US port to dealer was about 3 days.

Thank you Tony for that.

I just spoke with BMW Customer Svc and was told that the car was loaded onto the Wild Rose Leader on 10/8/23. Production of the car was completed on 9/14/23, so my time in port was approx. 24 days.

Alpine white with shadow line
Black M double spoke wheels
Blue calipers
Magma red leather with high gloss black trim
Driver assistance pkg
Premium pkg
Harmon Kardon

$72,725

I was told that if I didn't like the blue calipers they would switch them but it would delay delivery of the car.

z4forme, give it a little time after you take possession of your Z4 and if the blue calipers really bother you have them painted red.
In fact, you should have them match the exact orange/ red shade of the seats.

It won't bother you with the top up, just with the top down, and just when you're looking at the car while outside the car. No one else will notice. Don't sweat it. Besides, the M badge has 3 simliar colors, eh?

Great build by the way. Our friend SpeedyATL has the same build except with the double spoke orbit grey wheels and it looks stellar. Love my black wheels. Congrats on getting lucky - I've been super lucky myself with my last 3 cars being available on a boat or in the showroom (430 conv., M3, and Z4!).

My 2020 has the blue calipers with magma red because at that time there was no red option for the M Sport brakes which is probably why you see so many with the blue which are likely all early models.

Ahhh. This would make sense.

I didn’t realize the red wasn’t always an option.

The red calipers and the red interior aren’t even the same shade. Blue and red are contrasting colors, so even at a technical standpoint that is a better matchup.

Blue calipers are OG for bmw anyway. Congrats on the car! I get a lot of compliments for the magma red interior.

I was told today that my car is also on the Wild Rose Leader. I was not expecting that because it doesn't show up in the NYK RORO website schedules.

Mine was ready for transport on 9/25, left the factory on 9/28, and reached the port on 9/30.

In any case, the ETA to the West Coast (Port Hueneme) is generally around 30 days with 2-3 stops along the way.

I’d tell them you’ll wait for the Red calipers

You won’t regret the decision

I think the blue calipers look great with it, tbh.

But it sounds like you wanted the red calipers to begin with. I know how my brain works - if that were me I would just have them go with the red calipers.

Good point! Here’s a pic of them together so you can see the difference in shade.
