Brand new to the forum. I'm going to the dealer next week to order a Z4 and I'm curious what I should expect. Bring a deposit check? Once it is ordered will I get a receipt stating such? I've read stories of dealers selling an ordered car to someone else once it comes in, Corvette though. I like to hear your experiences.

I didn’t pay anything ahead of time when I ordered mine. I got a production number once the order was placed and was able to track everything online. Not sure if other dealers require a deposit or not.

Don’t think BMW dealer would screw you like the Corvette dealers. There isn’t a 2 year wait for the Z4 so with less buyers less shady dealers.

When I ordered mine, I gave them a $1k deposit using my credit card. Once the CA loads the order, they can print out an order confirmation that shows you as the customer and the production number if the dealer has an allocation. It also shows the configuration as ordered (double check it!)

You can then track it through MyBMW using the production number.

If you are planning on financing with BMW, then no issues.

If you are planning on financing with someone else, I would definitely ask ahead of time on how that will work with your specific lender.

Just had an issue myself where I was advised that I needed a certified check from a done deal loan which slowed down my delivery significantly. Obviously, this is on delivery day, so ask those questions first!

to put in an order, you'll likely need to bring a check for either $1000 ro $2000 depends on your sales agent. Know what you want, be confident and don't settle for anything less than what you really really want.

IF you aren't using BMW financing definitely know what types of checks the dealer takes prior to the ship getting to port so you're ready. I had the exact same issue as Horseman.

I wasn't asked to put down a deposit when ordering but I put $1500 for peace of mind. I think my dealer said that they would only take up to $3500 but it was optional.

I negotiated and ordered mine through email/phone. Left a credit card deposit slip (though they haven't actually charged vlmy card). I should actually visit the dealer for the first time to pick it up in like a week or two.
