Z4 Auto-lock off when in garage

Is there a way to automatically exclude auto-lock/alarm when in home garage?

Auto-lock is great most of the time but gets in the way in garage at home. I may leave top down and want to just drop something on the passenger seat without going to get my key. I recently did that and set off the alarm!

I have not see anything to indicate that you can deactivate the auto lock function by location. It would be great if that ability existed or even if it had the ability to turn off/on using the fob. If anyone know of a way to do this, then I would turn the auto on function back on.

you can press the lock button on the key 2 times to disable the alarm

I set this up for mine when I first got it, what a pain since I'm in my garage a lot working on things.

I presume you meant that IF the alarm is sounding, pressing the Lock Button on the remote will silence it.

But if the alarm is just enabled pressing the Lock Button on the remote does nothing.

Correct?

no, i meant: if you push the lock button twice (after parking it in the garage), it should lock the car and deactivate the alarm.
That way you should be able to place stuff on the passenger seat without triggering the alarm when the roof is open.

I simply hit the unlock with the remote fob after it autolocks itself when I walk away. That leaves it unlocked in the garage, but retains the convenience of autolock when I drive it. If you use your iphone or Applewatch to unlock/drive the car, it will not autolock when you leave the car, so take that in to account. Autolock is only by detection of the departing key fob.

Two other small tidbits: since most if us right handed people with LHD cars would unlock the car via iPhone with our left hand, if you are wearing an Apple Watch on the left wrist also, it confuses the car. Use the hand without a watch to use the iPhone.

Also, while the iPhone will load the same presets as you have programmed in your keyfob, when you unlock, for some reason, the watch does not, so colors and infotainment may be different, if you unlock the car with the watch, then place the iPhone in the tray to drive. I have only used the watch to experiment, not actually drive with it, as you have to remove your watch to do that. It is more of an emergency thing.

Are you able to unlock your Z4 with iPhone or AppleWatch? I have not been able to do this on my 2023 Z4 M40i except with the KeyCard.

Yes, I do it all the time with my 2021 M40i when I’m in the garage without my key. Sometimes it take 10 seconds or so to unlock. I’ve also used the MyBMW app to unlock it.

Yes, it works fine. Simply hold the phone OR Watch against the center of the drivers door handle, and it locks/unlocks. Insert the phone or the watch in to the tray and away you go. You have to manually again hold the phone or watch against the handle to lock it. Of course, you have to register the phone with MyBMW app and see the digital key in your iPhone wallet. Mine is a 12Pro. If you use the phone to go, you can not switch to the watch to lock it. You have to start and end with the same digital device, but of course the fob overrides everything. I have also left the car unlocked for awhile, like hours, then tried to lock it with the iphone, or watch, and it will not UNLESS I actually pull up the digital key in the wallet and then hold it against the handle.

Again, as above, do not have the phone and watch in/on the same hand when unlock/lock. The near fields appear to interfere with each other.
