remote software upgrade mybmw help
Good afternoon!
We have owned a 2020 z4 bought pre-owned for about 3 weeks now. We got a message on the MyBMW app about a software upgrade. Following the instructions, we downloaded the upgrade on the phone, but cannot get anything to happen in the car to complete the upgrade in the car. On the supplied video, the remote seems to just open on the touchscreen and you can choose to proceed. We are not getting this to happen. Any suggestions would be appreciated! |

I did my 22 Z4 30i yesterday. The needs to be outside with the parking break on and follow the on screen instructions. It takes about 20 min.

It's kinda wonky. My 2021 M340i never once even showed an updated in the almost 2 years I owned it. Always showed as no updates available, even though I knew there were newer versions out there.

Its really hit or miss. One of mine has the 11/22 upgrade but its "unavailable" for the other.
In the meantime some of the guys with 4 series & M4's are getting a 3/23 upgrade.

Some also suggest turning off auto headlights.
I had to have dealer reinstall software to get latest version out (3/23)

Even with the parking brake on, we still couldn't get it to load. After reading the troubleshooting section on the app, I realized I had to go into settings on the app, then permissions, and it took me to a screen on my phone where I had to enable the Local Area Network.
once I did that, it started right away. |

After reading this thread, I tried changing the App permissions as Dougzzzz stated and it worked immediately. Drove the car for 20-30 mins while it transferred the software to the car. Parked in my garage, turned the engine off and set the parking break. Software upgrade started .... |

When I did the update to 11/22 on our 20 S30 the instructions were quite clear. The phone needed to be connected with both Bluetooth and WiFi (presumably, BT bandwidth is too low for the transfer from phone to car), had to be driving to transfer download from phone to car, and then had to be parked outside with brake set (and a view of the sky [!], but if it works in a garage that's clearly not necessary). I've had no problems doing updates since we've owned the car.

Just got a notification on my phone that the upgrade completed successfully. Left it upgrading in the garage about 15 minutes ago.

The app permissions are one of those things that can easily be accidentally turned off. Typically, upon installation of the app, it asks for those permissions. I suspect many people, when prompted for local network access, answer no thinking that the app shouldn't have a need for access and then soon forget that they were even prompted for it. |

Had same issue with 2019 X5 last fall, and same issue now. The upgrade from phone went through but no message to proceed with install in car, same message that says ready to install but no prompt. I had to take to dealer then. The update on my 2022 Z4 worked fine? I’ll try the app settings thing

Although I was able to get the upgrade downloaded from the app to the car, my vehicle is also stuck in the middle with the installation waiting to be completed. The message reads that it will prompt me when installation is available.
Should I simply wait it out? |

This morning I saw an alert on the My BMW app saying there was an upgrade available. I had version 07/2022.58 and the software upgrade is going to be version 11/2022.60.
