Austin Yellow Metallic is a rather unique yellow that would look good on the Z4, I think. At least it looks great on the F82 M4.

Otherwise, and though Misano Blue is no more (EDIT: and Skyscraper Grey metallic replaced silver), they still offer white, silver, and red which are all bright sports car colors.

I wonder if more colors would be possible if the Supra weren't hogging up paint booth capacity? (Supra comes in 5 colors: yellow, white, black, red, blue - they don't look like BMW's Z4 colors either)....

I definitely wish they held on to that Frozen Orange color, or at least made a 3-stage metallic orange color. I'd have gone down that route in a heart beat. I'm not a bright and loud car color person, myself. Even if I had a porsche or new C8.

I had sunset orange on my M340i. Would have gotten that again 100% if it was offered on the Z4.

That color with either the ivory or cognac interior would look amazing on the Z4!

Had to search for that color. Agree it would look very good on a Z4.

Definitely favoring ivory interior with that orange - a little like a Creamsicle but better.

The cognac is more subtle and definitely works with sunset orange but I agree that the ivory looks great and would be my first choice.

I'm happy with Thundernight Metallic, but I really like Marina Bay Blue.

Supras are nowhere to be found. People finally came to their senses and realized the Z4 is far better looking with better service/maintenance and a better interior, and a ragtop.

I see more Supras than Z4s. While I agree with your points, it's also about $15-20K more.

Yeah, their numbers have been dropping. They did really (relatively) well for the first year or so. I typically see 2 or 3 a week around here. OTOH I only see about 1 Z4 every month (not counting mine.)

Same, 1 or 2 per month. Haven't seen the Supras as much lately - was seeing 2/week for a while. There are over 24 used ones within 50 miles of me, so perhaps folks don't like it for some reason or overextended themselves on payments. By comparison there are at least 12 used Z4's (G29, 2019 MY on). Perhaps that's similar % given relative volumes.

Not to stereotype, but I'm going to do it anyway

I think the supra appeals to the boy-racer type, rather than the Z4, and - as has been discussed before - the Z4 driver tends to be older and, ahem, 'mature' on their driving and financial habits (I'm not looking at that Radar Detector thread, honest!).

The Supra is significantly cheaper, and does put it in the range of the younger buyer. Unfortunately, in the range where younger buyers may be tempted to over-extend themselves financially. Coupled with Covid being a very financially stressful period for a lot of people.

I can see there may be quite a few used Supras available which will also suppress the sale of new.

Of course, this is a generality and by no means describes a given driver.

Well said. And to be fair, some of the Supra owners have upgraded to the new M2.

If you’re in the market for a 2 seater sports car, the options are clear cut across increasing price points:

GR86/BRZ/Miata
Z/SUPRA/Z4 30i/TT
Z4 M40i/718/TT S/ Vette 1LT
718S/F Type R-D/Corvette 2LT-3LT or Z51 /TTRS
718GTS/Corvette 3LT & Z51/FType 75
GT4/Emira/FType R75/911-T/Vantage
Z06/R8/GT4RS/911GT3/Artura/Roma/HuracanEVO
Etc.

That is an excellent point and I have seen a few of the new M2's on the road and the drivers are definitely younger than the average Z4 owner and would have been Supra customers.

Also BMW is aware that they needed to add some exciting colors to the M2 and they are definitely aimed at a younger demographic. I wish they did this for the Z4.

Based on what Z4 owners have been offered so far, don't hold your breath (my Misano Blue is the exception).

I am a kid at heart and love my Misano Blue but as previously stated I would have jumped on a hot color like Miami Blue in a flash.

Some rocket scientist at BMW has decided that the Z4 is an old man's car and we like more conservative colors. If they ever held some focus groups and asked the correct questions about color preference they would have a wakeup call.

Several months ago I posted about a conversation that I had with a young guy in his 20's that was driving one of the first 6MT Supras delivered to the US. He told me he really wanted the Z4 with a 6 MT as he loves convertibles and if BMW ever got off of their butts and offered the 6MT he would purchase one without hesitation. Younger drivers do want convertibles!

He told me that his license plate that starts with a Z and ends with a 4 says it all as he is waiting for the 6MT Z4 to be released so he would use the same plate!

Yeah, and too bad individual isn’t available although that’s expensive. YMB is pretty close but would be amazing too. How about Laguna Seca? My girls would love pink.
