Hey guys, on second thought I’m not convinced my wife’s are polarized, I’ll double check and get back to you. I do like the Ferrari Ray Bans though - the red almost marches the magma.

Yeah they’re not polarized. Sorry !

They aren't polarized, and the ones that I lost were. So I know exactly what you meant. When I got home I drove my Z4 and was like.. OH I CAN SEE THE HUD!

Crazy how red those seats look in the camera lens... THE SEATS ARE ORANGE!
I love Oakley sunglasses. I might hesitate at the regular price but the military discount through OakleySI makes them quite reasonable.

I'm like you. I need sunscreen and a hat and sunglasses. Had LASIK 20 years ago which finally let me wear real sunglasses. Despite that, I ended up having cataract surgery on both eyes last year. Sunglasses and a hat are a must just so I can see without strain.

And if you're worried about losing the hat, Croakies makes a tether that clips to the hat and your collar. I found them at a boating supply store.

I have a couple of flat caps. A winter one, made in Ireland, and a summer one made in Italy (spur of the moment purchase in Udine: a shop which sold just hats, and gentlemen’s apparel!). A bit different from baseball hats, but I wear those also.

Also sunglasses - I have some non-polarized ones just for the Z4.

I wear a Tilley T5 in cotton duck (the nylon ones are too floppy for top-down driving) most of the time the top is down in my M240i. Sometimes I wear an Irish-tweed flat cap, but it is not quite as stable in the wind as the Tilly with the strap. I get the impression the z4 will have less wind buffeting, so I might wear the flat cap more in cooler weather.

I had a brush with heat exhaustion once many years ago (not while driving). That was unfun. Since then, I do not go out in the sun for any length of time without a hat. It makes a big difference, for me, anyway.

Two things:
The easy one first: I wear prescription sunglasses and make sure to order non-polarized lenses and I have no issues seeing the HUD.

The harder one: I always wear a hat during the day if the top is down. Initially it was because of the glare, now it is also because I’ve recently had Mohs surgery on my lip from some Basal cell carcinoma and had a bunch of stuff frozen off of the top of my head and had a bunch of things biopsied. Fortunately nothing else was cancerous but some of it was precancerous, so now they are talking about possibly having to use a chemo cream on my head, which will cause my skin to blister and my hair to fall out, so I’m not looking forward to that. I’m mentioning this only to say that I wish I had worn a hat and applied more sunscreen. IMHO, sunscreen and a hat are an easy tradeoff for Mohs surgery on your face and head and dealing with all that comes with skin cancer.

I have always felt that in a warm weather climate a good sunscreen and sunglasses are enough protection because when it is a clear sky and sunny I get too hot and sweat with a hat on my head. 😎

Also a hat flattens my hair and I don’t like that look. 😂

I carry two white hats, a visor, and an instant ice pack .

Seriously though, I only drive top down below 80-85 degrees and preferably lower humidity. June-August are terrible here unless I go to the mountains where it can be 10-15 degrees cooler. The mornings are somewhat tolerable occasionally.

During summer I don't drive top down over 92 degrees between the hours of 1100-1800. That San Antonio sun on top of you is ROUGH.

Is it pretty dry there? 92 and humid here is more like 100.

June - August are awful here in the Miami - Ft. Lauderdale area as you can wakeup in the morning with the temperature in the mid 80's but the heat index can already be as high as 105!!!

Oakley offers most of their frames with multiple lens choices, some polarized and some not. On the website you can filter for one or the other. In the stores, you just have to carefully look at the box and normally the polarized glasses will have a 'P' cling sticker on the lens.

My go to lens is the PRIZM Daily non-polarized.

Around here, non-polarized are harder to find in stores as polarized are more popular with boaters and fishers.

What Oakley doesn't have is a good cloudy day lens. I have an old pair of Serengeti Drivers (from when it was still Corning) that are great on cloudy/hazy days.

I also have an old pair of Serengeti Drivers which I started using again last week after I completed my cataract surgery and I agree they are fabulous for cloudy/ hazy days. I always loved using them at the end of the day when the glare from the sun was terrible!

The frame is really worn and has started to crack but the lenses still do the job. Also if you look through the left lens you will see printed that the frame was made in Japan and on the right side it says Corning Glass.

I don't put the top down if the sun is directly overhead, but I usually wear a baseball cap anytime I go in the midday sun. I shave my head and it does burn pretty quick. I don't tan well anyway.

I also have non-polarized sunglasses solely for the Z4 which I wear if it's even remotely light outside.

Prizm Road is what I use on cloudy days, it's 19% light transmission. I wish Oakley had something like 20-22% range. There is Prizm Golf, but that's a little too light.
