Ah, makes sense now what you said about the sound. I saw a video where the 2.5 was pitted against the 4.0, and they liked the 2.5 more. The reason he gave was because he’s a tall guy and said the cabin is smaller in the 4.0. Of course the normal tall gearing complaint as well. SG has good things to say about the performance of the 2.5 but IIRC they complained about the sound as well.

Sure a 4.0 GTS would be a blast but you can get a comparable M40i for $55-60 used… I don’t think the 4.0 justifies a $40k premium!
Your truly not wrong ❕

I’m likely going to order a new Z4

The GTS felt loose for some reason

Yeah, he owns one so you can’t take his words 100% but it was a great video and I’m tall and it makes me concerned that I wouldn’t be comfortable in the 4.0 GTS

$100k+ for a boxster just rubs me the wrong way. I haven't driven one in years, but for $100k you should be getting something decently special.

I'm thrilled with my '22 M40 that I paid $63k for, no way I'd pony up another $40k because it's "so much better" than a Z4.

💯
If Porsches are so amazing and so incredible, why are so many for sale? 😎 A 911 on BAT recently that I saw had been through 4 owners in less than a year. There are countless very low mileage 911s and also, although to a lesser extent, boxsters and caymans. It’s like a game - get one, drive it once a month (if that), and sell it without losing money years later. I don’t get it… feels more like a status thing or an investment approach than a car you can drive and enjoy every day or every week. If I drove a 718 like I’m driving the Z, or especially a 911, I’d lose a lot via deprecation. And whenever I do have a chance to drive one, it’s not that great imo and I prefer my BMW’s. And now any 718 that I would want is $100-120k. That’s crazy for what you get in those cars, honestly. I would rather have a Z4 30i and an M2.

BMW really nails it with the Z4 M40i

After driving several Boxster’s over the last two weeks, I am underwhelmed

Does the search always show zero results or do they have the website programmed to give the available inventory at the closest dealer?
So just used inventory can be searched nationwide. For some reason I didn’t realize this could be done. Here’s TM.

That’s cool

The majority of them are dealer ordered cars and many are actually spoken for

Cargurus? Haha. I’ve seen a few actually for sale new at dealers, but not many and the go quick. Most are sold already prior to arrival but listed anyway for some reason.

Correct

One of my local dealers has one incoming and I know for a fact it’s sold because it was offered to me but I didn’t like the color and several days later it was spoken for

I’m still going to go see it in person it arrives the 1st week of October I believe

This is a sales tactic used to trick you into going to the showroom.

Absolutely. I asked my CA about this, and he said they do it for inventory transfer. But I suspect it’s a combination of incompetence or inciting foot traffic. I’ve seen new M4’s sit on lots for a couple weeks and M8’s at two local dealers. And XM and iX. But X5/7 are sold before they arrive, and almost all Z’s and M3/2 etc.

Btw my Z was in the showroom for two weeks back in January. I was surprised it was available for so long.

CarGurus is usually a good starting point. It's search engine is pretty good. But, lots of dealers leave vehicles on their website that aren't available any longer... maybe never were.

And the power from the engine is absolutely outstanding it just rips 💨
That’s where I landed 2 years ago and I’ve been happy with my decision ever since. This is definitely a keeper. It’s just a well balanced all around sports touring car, and it still puts a smile on my face.

It’s bittersweet for me because I love my current m car, but I also happen to really miss having a convertible

I’m programming myself…

I’ve driven two G29 Z4’s in total

I drove the base model yesterday

I’m redriving the M40i in a few days

With respect to any new car listing searches, just look for actual photos of the car. A dealer is not going to take the time and spend the $ to photo a car that is already sold. Then if you can't find what you're looking for, you'll have to do a little smiling and dialing.

Exactly! Although in some cases the dealers have the car but are too lazy to take pictures. I saw a beautiful tanzanite blue / orange M4 unsold and it had no pics on the dealers website for two weeks. But generally the rule is if there are pictures, it’s there!

Am I the only one to see 9.875% and think that is starting to be real money . . .? Must have really low registration costs in Cali, if you pay that sales tax rate?
