Sorry, my eyes are getting old. I see the tax rate now - sheesh, I thought our 7% ad valorum was high. Good deal.

I am sorry you did not go HK on the sound. HK basically operates at 70% of the stock system at 100%. I've owned both for a considerable time.

At 100% volume in the stock system, top down, I cannot hear it clearly. My hearing is degraded a bit, but not THAT bad. When I sold my 30i, the stock sound system was my chief dislike.

Now with the HK in my M40i, I have ZERO issues, ZERO complaints. It's everything I wished I had in my 30i.

Good luck with your build.

I believe the 18s available on the 30i models have narrower wheels and tires. whereas these are the same width as the 19" options.
Argo, when you did your test drives did you look at the used inventory at your local dealers? You might have seen a Z4 equipped with 18 inch tires, taken it for a ride and then been able to make a true comparison to the 19's.

I am asking this question because virtually all of the M40i owners in this forum have the 19's on their cars and in my opinion they really complement this more powerful engine and suspension package. You don't want to have any regrets later on, this is an expensive investment on your part and unlike the Moonlight top, the HK sound system and the red calipers, the 19 inch tires are really the icing on the cake!

You have read the same recommendation from many others in this forum that have M40i's and some of these people have an extensive automotive background and are extremely knowledgeable. It isn't too late to find a used one at a dealer, take it for a test drive one and possibly make a change to your order so please consider this suggestion.

I will see how I like it and will consider going aftermarket if it's not up to snuff.

I get that, but I do like how the 18s look (the configurator had made me doubt, but finding real photos I think it looks pretty good). If the width was different then I'd definitely go for the wider tires, but the 18 and 19 options on the M40i are the same in that regard, and IMO 35-40 aspect ratio on tires is ideal so both of them fall within that range.

I am a creature of habit!

My Z4 is parked outdoors at my condominium and is bombarded by our wonderful Florida sunshine and rain, coupled with extreme heat on a daily basis. Then add to that equation the poor quality of some of the roads around here and the debris that can hit your car while driving.

I am convinced that PPF and ceramic coating does make a major difference in my car’s appearance and a smart investment to make if you are purchasing a car at this price level. If I were leasing the car, I would feel differently.

Definitely considering a nice ceramic coat. I somewhat regretted not getting it done when we picked up my wife's new Audi S5 Sportback a few years ago. Though, admittedly, that one is in Mythos Black (which is notoriously high maintenance), and had been in the dealer lot a couple months already (which now makes me try to go the custom order route going forward).

I'm a bit less convinced about PPF as I'm not a fan of partial applications and I find it hard to justify the cost of a full application (which I'm estimating at $5-6K for this car at a reputable shop here in the Bay Area). I can just get touchups as needed for the foreseeable future instead; anything that a PPF would reasonably protect against can be touched up.

Any recommendations on which ceramic compounds work well with the PBM paint are more than welcome!

I think you might have the key justification there - the car is parked outside in FL. Same deal here in GA.

The poor quality roads with debris - I can relate to that here in GA as well. But it'd need to be daily travel on these to justify IMO.

If a car is garaged, I find it hard to justify tacking on another nearly 10% of the cost of the car to add PPF.

Leasing and getting it is just throwing away money.

My shop first applied Ceramic Pro 9H followed by Ceramic Pro’s Top Coat. I have them on my Z4 and when we have heavy rains the water rolls right off while I am driving. I almost feel like I just went through a car wash.

I think that you'll see most people here are on board with PPF and ceramic. Goes a long way to protect your 75-85k toy. Roads are just nasty, the sun is nasty, sand and grit is NASTY...

When I first came here I was told about it and I didn't even know anything about it. This was even before Westside Guy came on board lol.

IMO it's worth the investment.

Now that you mentioned it, NASTY would have been a great personalized license plate for my car.

NAZTY, you mean

I garage mine, but the PPF has been a game changer. Already protected my front end and hood and headlight on three occasions. The matte paint requires it. Also the black A pillars and trim looks pristine after multiple hand washes. Ceramic coating on the wheels and paint was the right call, too. Car looks like it just rolled off the lot after 6 months and 6k miles, pristine.

San Antonio always has construction going on, so IMO it's a must. Some rocks have even still gone through the PPF, but maybe just ONE, several saves for sure. Ceramic coating also does wonders to protect against spiderweb scratches and small blemishes as it also self heals. Nevermind UV protection.

Sorry for going OT.

I just checked and unfortunately both NASTY and NAZTY are not available in Florida. However some really good personalized plates are still ok.

When I originally looked at ordering a personalized plate for my Z4, I pitched both SEXZ4 and Z4PLAY which I thought were great plates and totally appropriate for this car to my wife. She called me a dirty old man so I selected ZMAZING which is G rated and still a winner!!!

I'm with you on that. I had PPF on a previous car and it didn't live up to the hype.
