2024 G29 USB Ports

Waiting (not so) patiently for my new ride to hit the port next week and trying to remember a small detail from my test drive a few weeks ago. If memory serves me correctly, there is a USBA port in center console near the wireless charging tray and a USBC inside the center console storage bin. Can someone please confirm the types and locations. Any others ie: in the trunk?

That's what I have in my 2023. As there were no changes for 2024, assuming this would be the same.

I have a 2023 M40i. The USB-A in the center console works for charging and data transfer. The USB-C in the armrest is only good for charging.

That diagram Argo posted above shows both do data transfer. I haven’t tried as I use CarPlay, but might be worth checking again.

I use the USB-C port in the armrest for music from an SD card. Car is a 2022 M40i.

I tried it, and it didn't work. Also, in my owner's manual, only the USB-A in the center console is listed for "data transfer"; the armrest USB is stated only for "charging".

Wonder if BMW is using "data transfer" differently from "playing music"? I'm using a micro SD card reader in the armrest USB-C port, but it is my understanding that not all card readers are compatible.

Interesting. My '22 s30i is both charging and data, verified by the two symbols near the port and by plugging in the wife's iPhone and playing music from it (ensuring no Bluetooth connection).

My owners manual states that the port supports data only if you have Live Cockpit Professional but I believe Live Cockpit Professional is standard on all Z4s.

I have a basic no name USB-C 64GB mini drive from Amazon, like $10, in my console port with about 10GB of music with meta data. Works perfectly and displays all the album art, when choosing by album or when selecting by song. Shuffle works in the same “by song” mode with art displayed on either/both displays. I highly doubt it is charging only, as the manuals are pretty generic and full of wrong info like that (like subs under the seats and the 60/40 back seat. )
