Who's pea brain idea is the form of qualifying? Teams hate it, drivers hate it, fans hate it. Is this Bernie thinking he's a genius? Clearly it wasn't anyone with a foot in the 21st century because they could have easily done the simulations to show how much less driving occurs after the first few minutes.

I haven't decided yet if I like the new quali format better or not. There are for sure many advantages with it leaving less at chance. It's also more interesting watching cars picked off one after another instead of a big swat at the end of each session. Teams that are alert always get a last chance to avoid elimination if they pay attention which was not possible in the old format.

Not their fault, it is easy math.

Lets say best case scenario you are first out in quali 2. 15min session, 1:45min out lap, 1:30 flying lap, 1:45min in lap.

That leaves 10min left in session when reaching the pit entry. 90sec elimination countdown for position 15 started at 10:40.

It is impossible to make a second run.

Simple logic, don't be in the pit if you are below the bubble. Just as in the old format you will be eliminated if you are below the bubble. But now it starts earlier and give you a chance to get out of danger, you just need to realize that before elimination starts you need to be above the bubble and after it starts you got to stay out on the track if you find yourself close to elimination 3 cars away about.

Kyvat wasn't in the pit, he had just finished his first attempt. Same goes for But, Gut, Van. Grosjean showed what pace the Haas has, with fresh tires on. It was mathematically impossible for Gut to come in and get new tires.

What are you talking about, last year Kyvat would have had a second shot and most likely made Q3. New format he had no opportunity to do that.

Stay out on track? On used tires? Seriously do you even read what you are typing. Not to mention they put in enough fuel to run their in,out, and flying lap. They have to pit between runs.

^ isn't that kind of the point of the new system? To mix shit up so cars don't finish the race in the same order as they started?

If the new system was suppose to yield the same results as the old one.. Why change it?

Agreed I could have stated that better. Don't sit in the pit when you are in danger of elimination.

At a detriment to fans who spend money attending races. The fans get rewarded with less cars on the track. You approve of that?

I certainly don't, as someone who does attend races every year.

Lol, qualifying.

The only race that has happened after this new qualifying is Australia and it was an entertaining race.

So yes, I'd rather give up a couple minutes of cars on track during qualifying for a much more entertaining race.. Instead of watching cars finish in the same order as they started.

Well there isn't enough data to disprove what I said or to prove what you said...

And I don't think they'll leave this new system long enough for us to find out... Cuz ppl love to bitch and complain.

The quali was supposed to catch the top 6-8 off guard and have them start from the back of the field for more excitement. Another way of 'artificial' passing.

Should be a good race though! Hopefully Ferrari gets a good launch again and race is on!

Lets be real, it was created in an attempt to occasionally catch Mercedes off guard. With possibilities of a slip up and find them further down the grid. Bernie has eluded to that.

Well that didn't happen. More Mercedes quali domination, with an even larger gap between Ferrari and Mercedes than last year in Bahrain.

If Vettel gets caught out by this quali system, I have feeling a couple people would change their tune.

You mean a legitimate way to have an interesting race. Not some farcical quali system.

Maybe Ricciardo can get up there too, I think he can back up his quali effort.

The new quali system is just fine but not perfect. The same can be said about the old system where you could sit in the pit to the last minutes of each session and end up on pole. With the new system that is impossible you got to get out and lay down a flyer before elimination starts or you are out, this in each of the three sessions. The system was designed to stop the pit sitting to the last minutes and it works.

And yes people are whiners by nature and impatient. It's nice with some change when it's not an unfair system which it isn't. Now Q1 and Q2 are actually interesting to watch.

What a crazy race. Rosberg is 2 for 2. Hamilton is somewhere else. He needs to get on point and Kimi was on point!

Kudos to Grosjean for running another flawless race. If Gutierrez would have not retired they both would have been in the points.

Ham was lucky to even have a car to finish, he got punted hard by Bottas.

Congrats to Haas and Grosjean!

The new tire regs really spice up these races.

Definitely digging the new tire regulations. Giving teams more opportunities to make different strategy calls makes things more exciting, I wonder how adding refueling back would mix things up even more.

I'm starting to cheer for the "underdog" Rosberg, nice to see someone else winning, even if it is a Mercedes still.

Rosberg was in a clean race leading from pole to checkered and only managed 10s ahead of Kimi that was down to P5 after the start. The Ferrari pace looks real. Rosberg might lack some in wheel to wheel racing but he is almost as fast as HAM up front on a clean track so a good measure of Ferrari's pace. And Kimi is slower than Vettel. Looks promising for some fun battles for 1st in coming races Haas is just astonishing, Wow!
