I don't know any thing about the LX3, but I had the LX2 for a little over a year and I hated it. I'm very happy with my G9 now after I got rid of the LX2.

I have the Panasonic LX2. The LX3 is similar but it is f2.0 and they improve the sensor a little bit so there is less noise at ISO 400. For wide angle shots, you won't find a better compact camera than the Panasonic LX series. I just wished they used AA batteries. The D Lux4 is a waste of money. You can't really tell the difference between the Leica and Panasonic in picture quality and the styling is almost identical.

I have a couple lumix cameras. Ignore the panasonic branding, these are GREAT little cameras. I love mine, great optics.

my dad has had a lumix for the last couple of years and it has outlived and taken better shots than all the compact cameras i had since then including minolta, fuji, casio and sony.

In my opinion, if you want a camera for low light conditions, I highly recommend a decent SLR. Due to the fact that SLR sensors are much more larger than point and shoot sensors, they'll perform much more better in low light conditions even with small aperture (big numbers).

I've been using a Canon Powershot G6 for a few years. As you may know, the Canon G series from the Powershot G1 to G6 all have a maximum f2.0. Even when using a large aperture of f2.0 when taking low light photos with the G6, any recent Canon or Nikon SLR will outperform with a larger aperture settings. Large sensors on SLRs help even though the G6 and LX3 have larger than average sensors sizes for point and shoot cameras.

I like the photos and due to the fact that it has image stabilization, the images have decent sharpness. I don't think I can do the same thing with my G6 unless hands are very or I have a tripod. Lastly, you need to adjust your white balance. Were you using auto white balance?

Yes, auto white balance, here are several snap shots from Vegas:

and a rainbow shot I saw just outside my house after rainstorm:

All in A mode with f2.0 and no adjustment. I need to learn more on this camera.
