NO WAY I'd pay that price, but knowing it was one of 5000 in the world I had to have it.
I'm fortunate that my lifelong friend is the Whisk(e)y consultant for Diagio (Johnny Walker) Canada. He's been in the business for a very long time and I get to sample some pretty rare whisk(e)y. I have a few decent ones in my collection and I agree that being expensive and being good isn't always the same thing. The thing with the expensive ones for me anyway is I hate to finish them especially if I like them because of the cost to replace. The other issue with having rare or difficult to obtain is just that, I hate to finish them when I can't replace them. I have a bottle of Benronnich that my friend gave me for my retirement/55th birthday, it is no longer in production and is absolutely fabulous. I have gone through about half the bottle and have put it away for fear of finishing it....crazy eh.

I have the SAME issue! That is why I have not opened that Sherry Cask Yamazaki...there is no way in hell I could responsibly afford to replace it. I have an expensive bottle of rum that is also out of production so I am milking the bottle. I also have a tiny bit left (one shot maybe two) of a regular bottle of rum, but the original production site that made me fall in love with the stuff is no longer its production home. There is a noticeable difference between them too.

I guess for me, it is similar to saving a bunch of money over the years and into retirement but then not spending it and enjoying the fruits of your labor. Believe me, I enjoy the chase and finding that once in a lifetime bottle that is irreplaceable. But then, if I finish it with family and friends, so be it. Much of life is but a fleeting moment to be relished at the time. When you are dead, those last few ounces saved won't mean a thing.

Had my first pour of Scotch then went out and bought a bottle. I am a bourbon fan and had posted about scotch recommendations a few pages back.

I ended up trying an Abelour 12 double cask at 80 proof while staying at the Greenbrier in WVA.

Mellow, earthy, fruit finish. really lovely. Like it is in the same family of Bourbon. but so different.

Sort of how you can hear bluegrass buried in Irish Music.....

Stopped by a liquor store nearby and found 1 bottle....so I took it home and am enjoying.

Also stopped by the Smooth Ambler distillery and bought a few bottles. Nice little gift shop but no tastings.

I remember back in the late 90s early 2000s when macallan 18 was $70 and 25 was $350. I should have bought a few cases, better return than the market.

So I don't know if you'll be able to get this but as I have mentioned in the past my very good friend (40 years) is in the Whisk(e)y business. Here is a promotional video for the Liquor Control Board of Ontario LCBO on Rare releases.

This was shot in his basement in the corner of his Whisk(e)y room, I can't confirm if he had pants on though.

https://we.tl/t-gwYVuBAyga

And I am not soliciting any business her for the MOD's, I just thought it might be interesting for the folks here who enjoy Whisk(e)y. Oh, and don't panic, the prices shown are in Canadian dollars.

Not in the LCBO you fiend. You suck. I expected this sort of thing from the Americans, but from a fellow Canadian - posting something one cannot buy? Et tu, Brute?

I know eh, so I'll just tell you this. 58% ABV but smooth. Really smooth and the rum cask finish is the real deal.

Now you are just twisting the knife. I mean, I feel a little tear forming somewhere in my right eye. It's just not nice. It's just not Canadian. A pox on your head.

So like I said, my buddy who is in the biz gave it to me a few weeks back. We drink a lot of whisk(e)y and I put it on my shelf and sort of forgot about it. I'm a Kavalan fan but I've been doing bourbon lately. Anyway, I had a fire on the other night and was listening to the Blues...and thought I should get into that. I honestly didn't even look at the label when he gave it to me....

Really good, I was shocked, at 58.6% I doesn't even need any water to cut it down, really smooth. Nice rum finish but not overly sweet. I'd grab a couple of bottles if I could find it. Just my two cents though.

LoL. I do have that brand readily availalbe around here. Not exactly sure about the rum cask simply because I have not really paid much attention to them other than the label itself
