Just want to confirm that's snowblower AND cocktails. Not snowblower THEN cocktails. Like any good Canadian you most certainly have a cupholder on your snowblower so that you can snowblow and consume tasty adult beverages simultaneously, right?

I know this isn't anywhere close to what some members are experiencing, but this is Southeast Louisiana where the average February temp is 66.

It's currently 23 and expected to be 12 degrees tonight. It's been "raining" heavily and everything has frozen. We've got some snow, but not a lot. More ice than anything else.

My mom's 70 yr old neighbor asked for helped covering his chicken coop with tarps. More than happy to help. Only problem, both gate chains between my mom's property and her neighbors' were frozen solid. I had to scale the gate and nearly slipped and busted my ass. Try holding onto ice whilst climbing ice!! At any rate, after 20 minutes of tying down tarps the chickens were covered and I was paid for with fresh eggs and whiskey (I would have done it for free).

We've also had 7.5 hours of no power. Thankfully we have a wood burning fire place and propane portable heaters and a generator.

Mom looks thrilled

A few pics from Midtown Houston. We never lost power but it's a glass midrise so has all the insulation of a coke bottle.

Pipes in the Midwest can still freeze in the winter but it still comes down to insulation. Midwest homes are generally well insulated so it doesn't happen as often as it could in states that don't get much cold weather.

TX doesn't have basements, right? Where do the pipes run (slab, crawlspace, etc...)?

I'm wondering how much havoc this is going to cause w/ anyone's irrigation systems. Even if the master valve were inatalled indoors, is it normal to purge the system in TX before 'winter'? Could be an issue come spring.

Hope you don't run into any Oryx while in NM.

The pipes run up through the slab. No basements. All attics. Which is generally where the HVAC are located. Also no Heat Valves for us which definitely could be problematic in these Temps.

@TXSTYLE I wish I was still up in Collin county in a newish house. I'm now in a 1955 house in Dallas with poor insulation and we seem to be going 5 hours no power then 1 to 2 hours with power. It's currently 45° IN my house, as the power just came on. It's 4 f outside right now. Oncor SUCKS!!

I'd gladly trade some of that cold weather for a working air conditioner in the Mighty Dodge right about now. The 4/70 AC wasn't cutting it yesterday.....
