2011 STi to be revealed in only a few hours now...

Available in a sedan (BIG WIN) AND... just moments ago, Motor Trend posted pics from NYIAS showing Subaru has implied it's getting a power bump too!

If it gets some real seats and the power/mod potential is better than previous years, I may have a seriously hard time keeping the 1er.

I got used to the hatchback shape....honestly an hatch has better structural rigidity than a sedan.

I really just generally dislike how close they're making the WRX and STIs in performance and looks...

Well, straight-line performance I think the WRX was throwing some numbers out there that beat the STi, but the STi vs WRX argument would look a lot like the M3 vs 335i argument, except for the fact that both are turbocharged. A lot more to the STi than higher horsepower numbers.

The mod potential wont' be any higher, it's still going to be the same engine. An OTS cobb stage 1 makes 20hp easily, no reason Subaru can't tweak the factory tune to make an extra 10hp which is what I'm predicting.

I'm glad I still have my '05, they're becoming quite rare with so many of them having been totaled or stolen for parts. And I just love the spirit of that car, it was built to be fast and doesn't give a flying fuck what people say about it's interior or giant hood scoop.

Amen brutha - I bought an '05 new, modded the heck out of it, kept it for 3 years and had to part with it. Miss that thing - these new ones just don't do much for me. Sadly, mechanically, the car has been unchanged for the most part in 7 years!

Subaru has a bit of an identity crisis. Their whole line changes styling every year it seems.

The only thing I don't like about the WRX is the back...It reminds me of a Saturn.

How? This is essentially the same design the STI has had for a decade. This was the natural evolution, not the hatch, so I don't see how they could envy anyone. Also, the Evo X sells like shit compared to the STI.

Revealed: 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI sedan and hatch
04/01/2010, 10:47 AM
By Mark Kleis

For the first time ever, Subaru has simultaneously released both a hatchback and sedan version of its flagship Impreza WRX STI performance model. For 2011, the STI comes with a heavily revised suspension to accompany the new design language found on a five-door hatchback and four-door sedan.

For the first time in Subaru’s history, both sedan and hatchback fans can rejoice together as the STI range-topping trim level will be available on both body styles.

Aside from the addition of a wide-body four-door STI with a massive wing being added to the mix, the other big news for 2011 comes in the form of a thoroughly reworked suspension. In 2010 the STI Special Edition previewed some of the enhancements made to the 2011 STI’s suspension, but fell short of receiving the full bevy of upgrades. Subaru says the 2011 STI received chassis tuning to accommodate for new aluminum front lower L-arms that reduce unsprung vehicles weight. Ride height was also lowered and new pillow-ball bushings were installed up front, with stiffer bushings out back for the double-wishbone suspension-supporting rear subframe.

There are also thicker front and rear stabilizer bars – up 1 mm from and rear – which help to increase spring rates by 15.6 percent in the front, and a substantial 53 percent in the rear. The new 18-inch aluminum wheels – standard – weigh an impressive 17.6 lbs. less than the previous standard wheels. There are also optional 18×8.5-inch BBS forged aluminum wheels that reduce unsprung weight even further by losing another 4.4 lbs. each, while sporting a silver high-luster paint for 2011.

To help stop the 2011 STI while pushing its new found suspension to the limits is the Brambo Performance Brake System – exclusive to the STI trim level. The Brembo package calls on ventilated four-wheel Super Sport ABS disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, or EBD. The combination of these systems allows for brakes forces to be controlled individually at each wheel, optimizing braking and reducing understeer.

The potent 305 horsepower intercooled and turbocharged 2.5-liter Boxer engine remains under the hood for 2011, along with a six-speed manual transmission.

Pretty much a disappointment. 7 years is a long time for no new innovation. But when people buy them up right n left, why change. Subaru has become insterested in making money I guess, haha.
