Steel cases are also rougher on mechanicals of guns than brass is

Its more wear and tear on the chamber of the barrel, bolt, extractor and other parts

Who cares if its some AK that shoots MOB (minute of barn) instead of MOA but......

That's the overall width measurement of the picatinny rail .811. The standard in the second image shows that dimension as .835 +0/-.005.

I bought some cheap dagger defense flip up iron sights, and tightening the rail mounting screws fully will only close to ~.825, leaving about .010 clearance, so the sight mounts are still loose.

Well your first issue is that your calipers aren't Mitutoya nor properly calibrated.

Second issue is like Tonka said, need more information, kind of vague.

I toss you a picture from the top and sideview. Top view shows a classic picatiny rail and below you would see a dovetail rail with engaged raiser mount (wifeys gun). Both have identical measure values like yours taken. Ok, maybe the metric conversion lacks a bit, but overall I would say, theres nothing to determine wrong.

I have a hard time believing you got a picatinny .024 under nominal.

I have a Mitutoya digital micrometer I'll use when I get home, I figured this would be close enough for a quick measurement. But I agree, cheap digital calipers with dying batteries aren't super reliable.

It's more likely I just got crappy cheap sights that need a tender loving file.

Never go cheap on aiming devices.

If you do so, you'll need no fixture, just drop the optics onto the rail, good luck

I meant to add.....keep fire extinguishers handy in the house......not just for fire....these animals like molotov coctails.....but a dry chemical fire extinguisher can be much more effective than pepper spray
.....you can also ring someone's bell nicely with it

Also keep on in your car....hopefully no additional explanation is necessary as to why
