Nissan Confirms LMP1 Driver Pairings

Nissan unveiled Monday its full-season driver lineups for the upcoming FIA World Endurance Championship, which kicks off at Silverstone next month.
Former Formula 1 drivers Max Chilton and Marc Gené will share the wheel of the No. 23 Nissan GT-R LM NISMO with Nissan GT Academy graduate Jann Mardenborough.

In the team’s second Nissan GT-R LM NISMO veteran racing driver Michael Krumm will be joined by Harry Tincknell and Olivier Pla.

The six drivers are set to take part in the FIA WEC Prologue test at Paul Ricard at the end of the month, when the new LMP1 car is set to make its official European track debut.

The third Nissan, currently entered for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will be piloted by Lucas Ordonez, Alex Buncombe and Tsugio Matsuda.

PREVIEW OF LMP1 and LMP2 CAR AND EACH TEAM.

Porsche's LMP1 entry, the 919 Hybrid underwent some noticible changes for this year, it has the same 2-liter V4 turbocharged petrol engine, an electric motor powering the front wheels, and two energy recovery systems

Audi's new R18 e-tron Quattro

Rebellion Racing Chose AER engines for this season (Advanced Engine Research)

The Swiss team’s two Rebellion R-One non-hybrid LMP1 cars will be powered by AER P60 V6 GDI twin-turbo engines, switching from the naturally aspirated Toyota RV8K-LM 3.4 litre V8 engines used to date. Rebellion has registered for two entries in the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

This one has gotten a TON or press, the FWD Nissan GT-R LM NISMO LMP1

The have built a front-engined, front-wheel-drive racer powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 working in conjunction with an electric drive system to develop more than 1,250 horsepower! To ensure it gets the power down, the car features bigger tires up front: 14-inch wide front versus 9-inch rear. And with the engine up front, it means the cabin sits further back compared to the other LMP1s.

G-DRIVE RACING ENTERS TWO LIGIER JS P2 FOR THE 2015 FIA WEC

With its two Ligier JS P2s G-Drive Racing’s aim is the 2015 world title in LM P2, which has attracted a particularly rich field this year.

Extreme Speed Motorsports to run HPD ARX-04b Honda

Honda Performance Development today announced the sale of two new HPD ARX-04b Honda coupes to Extreme Speed Motorsports for an ambitious 2015 racing program that may include the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The ARX-04b is fully compliant with the latest ACO LMP2 regulations, and exceeds the safety standards of the new enclosed-cockpit configuration. The new design is eligible for competition in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series.

Signatech-Alpine Targeting Move to FIA WEC in 2015

Like many teams that use Dunlop tyres, Team SARD-Morand was at the Motorland Aragón circuit last week to test them out. The session was all the more important for SARD-Morand because, with two cars in the FIA World Endurance Championship, they have hired new engineers, mechanics and drivers, all of whom need time to learn to work together.

http://www.engdev.com/team-sard-morand-race-fia-wec/
After two seasons in LM P2 in the European Le Mans Series, Morand Racing, which became NewBlood by Morand Racing early in 2014 is stepping up a notch this year, with two Morgans, named Morgan EVO SARD, in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Morand Racing, managed by Benoît Morand, has experience in LM P2 having finished in fifth place in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2013 (following the relegation of G-Drive Racing) and sixth in 2014.

All eyes are now turned to the prologue, the official practice sessions for the FIA World Endurance Championship at the Paul Ricard track in Le Castellet on 27 and 28 March.

Re: WEC Prologue

"Ten full season entry cars in the LMP2 class will make the journey to Le Castellet for The Prologue on the 27/28 March, the official start to the 2015 World Endurance Championship. The two day event will feature 29 of the 35 full season entries and the LMP2 category will make up the largest group of cars at Circuit Paul Ricard. On Saturday 28 March the public will be invited to be part of The Prologue; the free entry will also allow fans access to meet the drivers during the lunch time pitwalk and autograph session.

2014 LMP2 Vice-Champion G-Drive Racing is coming back in 2015 with a two-car entry. Race winners Roman Rusinov and Julien Canal will be joined by Britain’s Sam Bird in the no26 Ligier JS P2-Nissan. The no28 G-Drive Ligier will be piloted by an all-Latin American crew with 2013 24 Heures du Mans LMP2 winner Ricardo Gonzalez from Mexico being joined by Brazil’s Luis Felipe (Pipo) Derani and Colombian Gustavo Yacaman.

A third Ligier JS P2 Nissan will be on the grid for the French entry run by Oak Racing. The Gentlemen Driver crew of Jacques Nicolet, Jean-Marc Merlin and Erik Maris will share the driving duties in 2015.

Another all-French entry comes in the form of 2013/2014 European Le Mans Series Champion Signatech Alpine which will be campaigning the Alpine A450B-Nissan on the world stage with an all-French crew of Nelson Panciatici, Paul-Loup Chatin and Vincent Capillaire.

American sportscar team Extreme Speed Motorsports will be bringing both of its Tequila Patron liveried HPD-Hondas to Le Castellet with Scott Sharp and Ed Brown among those in the driving seat.

Team SARD Morand is a joint venture by the Japanese SARD and Swiss Morand Racing teams. The joint team will field a pair of Morgan evo-SARDs with the no39 car racing under the Japanese flag with Christian Klien, Koki Saga and Zoel Amberg sharing the driving duties. The no43 car will race under the Swiss flag with 2013 ELMS Driver Champion Pierre Ragues racing alongside fellow French driver Tristan Vautier and 2014 ELMS Champion Oliver Webb from Great Britain.

2014 WEC race winners KCMG return for another full season fielding the brand new ORECA 05-Nissan. At Le Castellet Matt Howson, Richard Bradley and Alexandre Imperatori will test the new car over the two days of The Prologue.

British team Strakka Racing will return to the WEC in 2015 with the new Nissan-powered Strakka Dome S103 with 2013 24 Heures du Mans LMP1 Privateer Driver Champions Nick Leventis, Danny Watts and Jonny Kane joining forces once again.

The Prologue – FREE ENTRY FOR THE PUBLIC ON SATURDAY 28 MARCH"

It looks pretty badass, for sure! I'd like to see this prototype in P1 if it isn't the Porsche this year (Respect to Toyota but...)

Here it is a Sebring

I'm not convinced by the sound though (not only the R18 but every LMP1), that need something that goes more with the look.
100% agree, Audi needs a win, or Porsche would be magic.

The news Nissan will miss the Prologue and first couple of races is a bit of a shame.

I watched a program on Audi's Le Mans program and the chief engine designer at Audi said 'noise is wasted energy' and we all know how efficient they strive to be. He's not wrong.

.
Definitely agree. I was hoping to see how it fairs with the rest of the competition sooner rather than later.

WEC article;

"With just one week to go to The Prologue and the start of the 2015 World Endurance Championship, this will the first opportunity for fans of endurance racing to meet some of the drivers and teams that will compete in the 2015 world championship.

After meeting the teams and drivers from the LMGTE and LMP2 categories, it is time to look at the premier category, LMP1.

The no1 is always attached to the championship winning car from the previous season and after three years of the no1 being worn by an Audi R18, in 2015 the coveted number will be seen on the Toyota TS040 hybrid of world driver champions Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi, who will be joined in 2015 by race winner Kazuki Nakajima. Alex Wurz and Stephane Sarrazin will be joined in the no2 Toyota by Mike Conway, the British driver getting his full season call up to the works team after three successful races in 2014, which included a win in Bahrain alongside his two teammates.

The two Audi R18 e-tron quattros run by Audi Sport Team Joest will wear the no7 and no8 in 2015, with 2012 world champions and 2014 24 Heures du Mans winners Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer racing together once again in the no7 car, while 2013 world champion Loic Duval will be joined once again by Lucas di Grassi in the no8 car with Britain’s Oliver Jarvis getting the call to replace ‘Mr Le Mans’ Tom Kristensen who retired at the end of last season.

Porsche have left their driver line ups unchanged after a successful debut 2014 season that saw the German manufacturer score a win at the last race of 2014, with Marc Lieb, Neel Jani and Romain Dumas standing on the top step of the podium in Sao Paulo. The two 919 hybrids will wear the no17 and no18 this season with Timo Bernard, Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley in the no17 car.

Team Bykolles will field their AER powered CLM P1/01 in 2015 with Swiss driver Simon Trummer the only confirmed pilot for the test at Le Castellet. The Austrian team will be hopeful of a strong start to the 2015 season.

Nissan Motorsports and Rebellion Racing will both be absent from The Prologue as both teams continue to develop and test their cars ahead of the 2015 season. "

AMR (Aston Martin Racing) has confirmed their entries for GTE-Pro! here they are:

“Announcing our largest racing programme to date ten years to the day after Aston Martin Racing’s debut win at Sebring 12 Hours clearly shows how the team has progressed, building year-on-year on its success,” said Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer.

So 3 new liveries as well as more power. See here:

"Porsche will move up to the eight megajoule hybrid sub-class for its assault on this year's World Endurance Championship with its 919 Hybrid LMP1 racer.

The German manufacturer has achieved the move from the 6MJ division with the all-new 2015 919 using the same concept of energy-retrieval systems – front-axle kinetic and exhaust gas recuperation – and battery storage system as its predecessor."
