No Odometer with Car Running?

I believe I went through all the setup options and it looks like the odometer mileage does not display when the car is running?! I won't be hitting the major milestones in this car but I've enjoyed seeing the odometer turn over (yes, mechanical 5-digits) or pass milestones like 100,000 miles in other vehicles.

I'm thinking I need to replace one of my programmable button functions with the trip info that shows mileage from the factory. Incidentally, with 11,500 miles on the car my average mpg is over 34 with lots of triple-digit runs! Love this car!

I was also a bit surprised that odometer doesn't show up when driving. I did a quick look through the iDrive screens but was unable to see any way to make it show. I like your idea of setting a button to the trip info. One of mine may be showing the same as the odometer since I only have 153 miles on my car (bad weather ).

I didn't realize the trip screen shows the current mileage on the car. It would be nice to be able to just have the odometer show at the bottom of the screen. The idea about programming a button is so you can pull up the trip screen up with one push. Now I know I can reset the trip screen if I want to at some point.

It shows up when you enter the car just before starting it. Isn't that good enough?

I'm usually doing other things when it shows up, then it goes away before I think to look at it.

Mine has the same screen. I'm just surprised that the odometer at the bottom of the screen doesn't show all of the time. Its not a big deal, I guess, since this is the first car I have had where it doesn't show all of the time, it seems unusual. But I bet I'll get over it.

I like to witness the milestone rollover - 999 to 1,000; 9999 to 10,000; etc. First car where I missed those marks. No biggie - I'll get over it.

Actually, in my opinion, a lease is better if you're going to put a lot of miles on the car. Each additional mile is only $.25. If I drive an additional 10,000 miles it will only cost me $2,500 above my lease payments. BMW will have a high mileage (relatively speaking) used car on their hands and I'll be on to a new one.

Now, if the new one is a 2025 final production Z4 with a true M-car engine I may buy it and treat it like a garage queen. I would certainly not want to blow through the 5-year warranty in three or four years. And in 15 years, the kids may get a real collector car with super low mileage. Or maybe then I'll just be a real old fart driving a real fast car!

Fair enough. You can scroll with that top button and leave it on the odometer in the middle right main view screen

If they came out with a true M engine then you may also wish to consider purchasing an extended warranty for this long term investment. 😉

I purchased mine because I have no intention of getting rid of it anytime soon.....perhaps not ever if this continuous push to EV means the death of all ICE cars within the next 5-10 years. .....kinda like RUSH's "Red Barchetta".

I understand the math & why leasing is a good choice for many people. Purchase tends to be my better move.

I feel the same way. This one is a keeper. That’s why I went with PPF and ceramic.
