It’ll be a few days until I can do some reasonable testing. At this point I know it fits well and blows air in the right place. Tomorrow is Halo ceramic coating day for the PPF and that will tie up the car for the whole day. I wonder if any other BMWs have the same charging pad configuration?

I do not think so. I did not see it in the X or 5 series. I think the new 2 series might though.

I haven’t gotten much run time with it because of the ceramic coating business, but my observations so far are that it keeps the bottom half of the phone cooler. I don’t know if it will keep it from overheating yet because I haven’t been out with it in the heat long enough. Also with the top up and the radio off you can hear the fan when you aren’t moving, but with the top down and/or radio on you can’t. I should note that I have hearing like a bat… At first I was thinking of slowing the fan down to make it silent, but with the way it is you can hear it when you shut the engine off when you park and it reminds you to turn it off. I’m not sure if the USB port will shut off on its own after some period of time or not, and it draws about 270ma, so I wouldn’t want to just leave it on.

Very good test notes. I wouldn't worry about the noise as most people have the radio on or are on the phone.

I just found and downloaded an app that monitors the battery temperature on the phone. That should let me collect some meaningful data once I get some time in the car.

Seems like you are well on the way to producing a fix for the annoying phone overheating issue on the wireless charger - which means you may be up for another challenge? I am a very active "dreamer" and this morning's dream may offer some inspiration. The dream went like this -- a couple of bystanders peppered me with questions along the line of "show me how this works." Since I have had the 2021 Z4 for only a few weeks, I began randomly pushing buttons. I pushed a button I had not noticed before, one with a pictogram of a Starbucks cup. Instantly, an arm with a tray on the end unfolded from under the mirror on the driver-side door, accordioning out about 2 feet (just about the distance from the door to a Starbucks drive-thru window). On the little tray was circular indentation, the size of the bottom of a coffee cup, with a little "seat-belt" arrangement to hold the cup in place. The tray was also just large enough to hold a scone/croissant. There was also a small clip to hold a credit card/bills. Pushing the button a second time, caused the tray to retract to the door. A third push and the tray/arm disappeared under the sideview mirror. Seems like a nice engineering challenge ....

I think this is beyond my skill set, but if I was going to go this big I would be working on side mounted hideaway air to air missile launchers for "Traffic Mitigation". Hey, if they're good enough for James Bond, why not? I think I can get the parts on Ebay...

The cupholder config on my G05 X5 45e is completely different compared to the G29. I would say the 3/4 series may be comparable to the g29 ... but haven't been in one lately. I'll let you know next time I'm in my friend's G82.

I find it much more convenient to just drop the phone on the charging pad without fussing with cables.
