Thoughts after a year
As of last Saturday I've had my Z4 30i for a year. Thoughts from that year are:
I'm driving a experimental car. I have yet to see another one on the road. I live in the Midwest and get to some of the larger cities from time to time and nothing. I'm ok with this, just make the car get more noticed. Mine is frozen grey with magma red interior and I love the color combo. The frozen paint is quite easy to take care of and would do it again given the option. Only hiccup was a recall to replace the engine. Yep the whole engine. Took about 4 days and had to take it back to get an emission line reseated but no other issues. Did I regret not getting the M40. Honestly no. My other car is a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, so power, speed, ride quality, comfort, etc. well night and day difference. Plus the 30i is pretty damn peppy. With that said in two more years if I'm in a place to do it I may trade for the M40 or whatever they have at the time. Of all the cars I've ever bought this is the most expensive but I've had absolutely no buyer remorse. Here's to many more years of enjoying this really fun and sexy ride. |

Still love it. Feel much more comfortable in it and driving it hard and letting it fish tail a little bit every now and then.
Even though I originally thought the remote roof up/down was a joke/gimmick I have come to really like it. Often drive into the garage with the roof down - after shopping, getting take out etc. it’s just nice to leave the roof down, unload the car, keep everything including the trunk open to get the food smell out a bit (take out...) and then come back out to the garage and just use the key fob to close the roof up. Talking about take out - at the Portillo’s thrive through line today, one other driver commented how nice the car is. It really looks stunning with the roof down. |

And forgot: my boss called me while driving with the roof down. He had no issues understanding me. I had to pull over because of wind and traffic noise made it hard to hear him.
Very impressed with whatever noise canceling the system must be doing. |

I really like my Z4 M40i, but it's so stupidly expensive here in Canada ($100k out the door). Having so much money put into a high depreciating item I can only drive for several months in the year has me second guessing my decision.

In the UK it is part of the Comfort Package, a £750 option. The package includes comfort access (keyless entry, plus external roof operation via the key fob), wind deflector, through loading system and steering wheel heating. Well worth the extra cost for the comfort access and wind deflector alone.

I have noticed if you use the remote at a distance, it will only open the windows. Holding down the unlock next to it opens the roof. Give that a try

That's a 7-9 year old car with no warranty compared to a brand new car with a 4 year warranty.

Getting there - I think
I've had my G29 30 since August and I'm slowly beginning to warm to it after experiencing a few issues - door\key fob problems, passenger side door lock failing, mirrors failing, alarm going off, rattles in the plastic dash, stones in the brakes and the usual system issues as experienced by many on here.
If there's one area that I'm still no sure about it's the handling on bumpy roads - I find it incredibly skittish when the roads are less than perfect and it seems you have to work hard to keep it in line. It's great on big sweeping A roads and on the motorway and the grip is great (even in wet weather). At times, when scootling around the Peak District, it's been a relief to reach a smooth A road after spending time on some of the B roads in the area. On the minor roads my old TT was a much more enjoyable drive but on long distance jaunts the Z4 wins every time. |

Pricewise, I found the Z4 to be a bargain compared to the competition - particularly Jaguar and Porsche. Dave |

What she said. couldnt agree more. i am finding a car with performance, tech and can be driven in comfort mode is like 2 cars in one. LOVING it since getting it in October. The wineries just reopened in napa and i am set to be up there a few days in July with tastings being set up now. when i used to do day trips to visit in my Z4 M coupe it was fun but brutal to drive daily and my wife refused to drive in it to napa. new car is comfortable when needed but great fun sports car when i want it (most of the time!). love to be in a sports car with tech 90% of the time and dial it back when comfort is needed. my last 2 cars - the M coupe and my 1999 Honda S2000 had zero tech and impossible to do work calls from them too! Still have that s2000 and will be hard to sell but time to pass it on to someone who will drive it as dont need 2 convertibles.... but back to topic GREAT car and Love it! fun, performance, comfort and tech. and get the head up display! |
