I think it's my perspective relativity of my comparisons. I'm comparing against my V8 twin turbo car.
Well yes, it's no 720s.

I wonder if BMW went back to piezoelectric injectors?

This car looks good in some angles and horrible in others.

Head on Front View - Ugly
Front 3/4 View - Not bad
Side View - Looks awesome
Rear 3/4 View - Looks pretty awesome
Head on Rear View - Ugly.

Mazda doesn't have any problem making these comparisons with their two seater convertible because they've conscientiously designed it with weight in mind. It's 1000 pounds less than the Z4 in case you were wondering...

If you accept more weight is a requirement with modern cars, then BMW won't make it a priority. I say continue the conversation around unnecessary bloat, especially in a two seater sports car.

They run coolant through the exhaust manifold (which is built into the cylinder head) to help control the temperatures to prevent it from getting too hot when under extreme duress. Overall it reduces emissions by preventing the catalytic converter from running too hot by allowing it to operate at a more effective operating temperature. It also helps get the engine up to temp earlier.
Does the cooled exhaust manifold give any advantages to the turbo? Perhaps reducing transfer of heat from the exhaust turbine to the compressor turbine?
It may help lower exhaust temperatures more than they would without it before it gets to the turbo. It would only be beneficial at sustained higher operating temperatures such as driving on a track which I don't think many will do with their Z. This puts more pressure on the intercooler though, obviously, which means they have to beef that up. This helps to reduce weight and the overall size of the exhaust headers too which is an added benefit.

I bet we see this incorporated more across the board throughout future applications.

Probably not. They went away from it because it provided no real advantage; Especially in the US due to our poor fuel quality.

Seems to depend on the color more than any other car IMHO. Love front view in the matte grey. Hate it in red.

Based on the German brochure, there is a small footnote that says automatic only until July 2019.

I have a low mileage E85 Z4 3.0si which is long paid for, in great shape and makes 255 hp like the new Z4 does in 30i trim. But my car has the sweet N52 inline six motor, whereas the new car has one of those awful sounding 4 bangers. I know the new car has lots of features and improvements over mine, but I'm really struggling to justify the expense of ever replacing it with a G29.

Its particularly problematic for Canadians. If you want to stay in a straight six engine, that means the M40i or 40i. With Canadian pricing, after taxes are applied, the difference between the final price and six figures won't be enough to buy you a pizza and a case of beer on the drive home. I'm therefore expecting Canadian sales figures for this car to be an abject failure.

Miata! The answer to the convertible roadster question is always Miata! The Z4 looks great, but you could get two Miatas for one m30i, or three Miatas for the m40i. I'm thinking the Z4 will be very competitive with the boxster though.

The "gross" weight is the max weight the car can take - its own weight plus passengers and cargo. So you'd want to compare the "curb" weights.
Oh wow F me. I honestly didn't put 2 and 2 together. So what are they typically adding to the curb to get the gross?

I guess that's roughly true if you are looking at a stripper/base Miata; a Club version with Brembo/BBS/Recaro pkg is over $34k MSRP.

I don't think the Z4 really compares to the Boxster tho, not without a stick...

Not sure - some formula that has to do with the safest amount of weight the brakes can handle, maybe the suspension too I guess.
