I don't think there's any doubt he's in the top tier of drivers. He just was lucky enough to be at Merc when the regs changed and somehow they were (And still are) the only team who put out an amazing car. RB's chassis is great, Ferrari had a year where they cheated and got close to the Merc's performance, but Mercedes' utter domination of the turbo hybrid era will definitely go down in history. Lewis got lucky twice: Once just being in the right seat at the right time, and then with Rosberg's sudden retirement, there wasn't a tier 1 driver available to fill the seat.

Are we going to pretend that Vettel, Alonso, or heck even Verstappen or Ricciardo wouldn't have won 5 WDCs at Mercedes?

Mate I have to say "Yes & No"

"No" Because : As you know Red Bull is struggling seriously with the RB16's chassis and balance .
By the crash from MAX they had to replace the nose, front wing and parts of the right front wheel suspension . And suddenly the car felt better , but they don't know why ...
I said the day before the race that the RB16's behaviour was unpredictable and dangerous to get a crash . And it was a crash even before the race began.
Probably RB changed too much at once regarding the chassis and aerodynamics . Let us hope they can figure it out @Silverstone .
Of course the HONDA's PU comes still too short in power vs the Mercs PU .

A strong battle from MAX vs Lewis would be the ultimate race !

I would say that Hamilton could have won a WC at Ferrari during Vettel's tenure there, esp last year.

Mate . I couldn't agree more .

If Lewis could be WC last year with Ferrari ?
That's for sure mate !

But only if he could run the whole '19 season with the "Ferrari Jet-Mode" !

Na. I genuinely think Lewis at Ferrari in 2017 would’ve won.

"Is Merc cheating again with a radar system to outsmart the starting lights" ?

According the latest ! => https://www.gpblog.com/en/news/63715...g-lights-.html

It's not surprising that Mercedes has been the top team for the past seven years. Every time the team knows how to come up with something new in order to be the boss of the competition. The last trick was the DAS system. Now it seems as if Mercedes is also anticipating the start lights for an even faster start.

It's another very clever trick if it turns out to be true, but according to former F1-driver Robert Doornbos Mercedes might be trying to anticipate the start lights. This might enable the team to bypass the two-tenths human reaction speed.

The slow-motion images show three red lights on the Finn's steering wheel. All three are on when the start lights above the grid are at four. The images show that Valtteri Bottas isn't looking at the big lights, but at his steering wheel. As soon as the lights on his steering wheel go out the Mercedes makes a run for it.

The problem of Bottas was that he saw above him just in time that the lights were still on. He had to get off the gas to avoid a false start. But if Doornbos is right Mercedes was very close to a good anticipation, because a millisecond later the lights indeed went out !

Lewis did it great with the new system ,his car took off like a bullet and won at least one sec. in the first straight at the start

this is interesting and couldnt get it actually.. im not saying Merc' is trying something or not but "lights out" sequence was decided by the race director in the past and i guess still..so there is no certain time for the start in that way.. so what they wired a line to race starting lights directly to the steering wheel? lights on the track are LED as well.. so no latency.. couldnt get the thing.. or im too tired idk..

no i guess 0.2sec is the tolerable margin for a false start.. like Bottas did last year.. this sounds like something different..

Mate listen : "Probably" Merc is cheating with a new radar system ...
This system can see the starts lights and can release the clutch of the launch control in 0.0 sec ! Works like your speedcam detector in your car .
In front of the startlights :The fastest ever measured human reaction speed (time) at the startgrid was 0.2 sec.

Let us say now : Last Sunday "someone" did it 0.0 sec !!!

Do you get it mate ?

Actually he didn't had to look at the start lights !

After the race he was questioned about the strange situation .
Bottas said :Must be an electrical malfuntion . I already requested for a steering wheel replacement !

I really hope Merc will use it again @Silverstone !
