I tried to adapt the distorted leak image (typical smartphone wide angle lens shot) and to find the lines on both cars.

And I really don't get it

Is this due to the importance of the Asian market were wonky shapes (in western eyes) are obviously preferred over the clear elegance as we like it here?

Still hope it looks somehow crisp in nature...
+1 Totally agree

I'm sure they'd want to give us a car that mirrored the concept's looks if they could but, as previously stated, this just simply isn't possible on many fronts. Blame the government agencies that dictate such matters.
As far as how the production model looks, I like it for the most part. Not an overly gorgeous thing but I'll reserve proper judgment for when more photos appear, in different colors.
There's nothing in the concept's design that can't be tweaked to meet regulations and still keep pretty much the same design/look. Basically the angle and height of the hood to meet pedestrian regulations but there's no excuse for ending up with different headlights, bumper, etc...

There are LOTS of differences!

Comparing Front Views:
- Brake Cooling Scoops are smaller
- Front/Center scoop is sculptured differently
- No side vents in hood
- Headlights are larger and rounder
- Mirrors are completely different
- A-Pillars are much more noticeable from Front

Rear View:
- Rear vents sculpted different
- Diffuser is different
- Tail lights are bigger and narrower
- Exhaust tips are different

Side View:
- Front vents are not cut back as much
- Headlights are shorter
- Nose Overhang is reduced
- No Nacelles behind head rests
- Door handles have been added
- Less "swoopy" - no shoulder line at headrests

Overall, looks much more generic than the prototype. Like it was left to soften and shrink in the hot sun...
Dude when I made my original post only the front photo had been released. There wasn't even a comparative front photo of the concept. Based on that eye test you would have said the same.

OP later added side and rear photos with comparable views of the concept.

At least it has the same number of wheels as the concept. Probably. Hopefully. Maybe.

I own no garage queens. If it's in my driveway, it's been ridden hard and put away wet. ...and now, with a light crust of Maine road salt.

Was that supposed to help reinforce that the Z4 and SLK look similar, or dissimilar? Other than them both being red two seater convertibles, they look nothing alike.

Vision Concept from several years back

The Z4 has many design cues from it
