Tracking Your Z4 from Factory to Dealership

As suggested, this thread is for posting info on the process of tracking your Z4 from factory to dealership.

Though some of the info is dated, I found this info from Bimmerfest to be helpful when tracking my delivery. Hopefully others here will post updates and corrections.

Thanks for posting this. It is a great summary.

The United Road information for tracking from the US port to the dealership appears to be out of date. Does anyone have updated information on how to track this leg of the journey?

Also, FleetMon does not appear to have 14 day satellite trials anymore. MarineTraffic.com does offer a 7 day satellite trial. You can track the ship thru land based tracking until it gets out of range of European land. The 7 day trial will then cover until you get within range of North American land based tracking. The Professional package provides satellite tracking for one vessel at a time. This is normally billed at $828 for a year. Click on 7 Day Trial. It will need a payment method but it does not charge you as long as you "Unsubscribe" before the end of the 7 days. You can unsubscribe at any time and the plan will still be active for the remainder of the 7 days.

Here's a trick I figured out on MarineTraffic.com to find the location of a ship without subscribing to satellite tracking.

Use the search box at the top to search for the ship by name. That will bring up a summary page for the ship. Click on the 'View on live map' button in the map window. That will switch to the live map with the ships last reported position. (It may or may not be satellite based source.) The window adjacent will show the ship data for the current route, including ETA and the age of the current position. Click on the 'Route Forecast' button. It will then show the forecast route from the current reported position to the destination along with a single untagged ship icon showing the current location.

My car has been sitting at Entering assembly line since April 25th and hasn’t moved. It looks like yours went pretty quick to the next step.

Seems like the updates don't happen very often. Don't be surprised if the next time you look it's sitting at the port or something. Well, maybe not that big of a jump, but don't be surprised at a pretty big jump.

On tracking, I'm still "at port" for quite a while. I saw that the MyGarage web page showed this, but the MyBMW app had me a few steps back. I asked my sales guy the status and he confirmed it was at the port and believed his system was most accurate of course. So that matches the web page and the app is behind.

Just sharing I guess, if you see conflicting info then it might be the web page which is accurate and not the app.

Hoping it ships soon and can start tracking what boat it's on, if so I'll update what I find. Others may be on it as well and if not maybe we can continue sharing what we know about how it works. I imagine the post linked at the top is still pretty good but it has been 8 years and things have likely changed.

Sitting at port for long time means sitting open in all weather conditions and more exposure to paint damage, sucks

Slightly unrelated question, how many keyfobs did you get with your z4 order pickup?

So I read often that cars leave Germany from Bremerhaven. I can't confirm nor deny. Where do they tend to land in the US? I've seen a lot of different results, but does anyone know?

https://www.walleniuswilhelmsen.com/schedules

This seems to be the most common carrier, but I read K-Line a lot as well. If it's WW, and we know the ports at each end, we could take a wild guess as to when things might actually get going. Assuming no big back-logs and all of that stuff.

AFAIK, New York/New Jersey, Baltimore, Charleston, Brunswick (GA), Galveston, Port Hueneme, and Tacoma. If yours is being delivered to MN, I'd guess New York/New Jersey or Baltimore is where it would be offloaded.

My car arrived today at the Port of NY-NJ on Themis, which is one of the Vehicle Carriers owned by Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

If you have a copy of the Vehicle Inquiry Report from the dealer that shows your production number and option list, it will also have “Port Loc.:” in the right hand side of the header area. For Iowa mine was BALPOA (Baltimore).

Nice, thanks!

And yeah FYI for anyone else, it's right there on the stuff the dealer sent me, and quite possibly for your orders as well.

My car was shipped last year via K-Line. BMW uses both of the lines. The schedule for K-Line can be found here:
