Car Shipping Help/Recommendations
Hi all,
I have purchased an 2022 M40i from a dealer in the Denver area but my first attempt at finding a shipping company via Shiply to move it to the PNW resulted an a scammer taking my deposit…f-ers. This is not the dealer’s responsibility (and unfortunately they don’t have a recommendation for me.) My question is, does anyone here have a dispatch or trucking company they had a positive result with that I could reach out to as opposed to the internet search dispatch attempt I tried the first time? Appreciate any suggestions… |

I live in Florida and bought my car in VA. My SA made all the shipping arrangements, all I had to do was pay. I have been shipping cars for many years and learned early on to not use a broker. If you have to make the arrangements deal with the trucking company direct. Good luck.

Sorry I can't help but I will second the thought of not using a broker. I had to ship a car back in November and I went online and submitted my information and ship date to a site that connects me with several brokers.
The first one that got back with me with a reasonable price I booked with. However the broker could never actually confirm that he had a driver for my date. He kept saying that "no worries....I will find you a driver". I got fed up and went with another broker who confirmed a driver for me. I cancelled with the first guy, saying that since he could not confirm a driver for my date, I wanted my deposit back. He refused. I chalked it up as a loss and went on my way. To this date, I still get inquires from this company asking me "if I still need to ship my car". I finally replied that they can go f**k themselves. |

It may not necessarily be an option for you (don’t know your situation) but I’ve purchased two cars now, out of state, by fly and drive. One from SC to MI (~1000 miles) and my Z4 from IL to KY (~400 miles).
It looks like your trip is longer than those (maybe a 2 night return trip), but just throwing it out there. It can be fun.

Trust me...I seriously considered the drive but this time of year is probably asking for trouble! (I'm one of those car guys that enjoys the journey far more than the destination in most cases.). Other travel would have limited my window to pretty much ideal driving conditions so I would not have had the ability to hunker down if necessary...

Ya'll a bunch of weenies! Back in the late 60's I drove my Austin Healey Sprite from Glenwood Springs CO to Denver in the middle of winter many times when I was in college.
Of course there was that one time I ended up in a ditch on the side of road...... |

Going to HS and college in the Denver area I learned to drive in the mountains in an Opel Kadett and a Chevy C20 pickup. In the winter, the Opel had snow tires and the pickup had a set of chains. Even with the snow tires, I got plenty of practice drifting. Had a few close calls, but never did put it in a ditch. What I hated about this time of year is the weather can go from sunny and mild to a blizzard in 30 minutes. And the sun beating on the snowpack can cause avalanches. One time I spent 2-3 hours on I-70 near Vail pass waiting for DOT to clear the road. A slide buried about 100 yards of road under 8 feet of snow. Not worth it. OTOH, if we were talking about a new Jeep Gladiator; go for it. Gerry
