Ambient temperature as sensed by the tire or local ambient temperatures? I ask because my garage is heated during the winter so the recommended tire pressure could be tricky if based on tire temperature while in the garage but then driven and parked somewhere significantly colder. For the drive home, the tires would be underinflated.

I've observed recommended tire pressures on my car run between 31 and 34 psi.

The ACE 3.0 wiring harness connection is helpful.

I know this is a bit old, but I’m browsing around trying to find ways to install a Dashcam in my Z4. Went to recommended install shop and they quoted full MSRP for a blackvue front and back cam which I have no problem with, but $1500 for installation which I really can’t justify.

I’m really REALLY leary of doing anything that might cause rattles or noises and obviously the Z4 has less wire routing possibilities.

Just wondered if you have any pics or info on how you installed this camera - it looks nicely done.

I was able to easily tuck the cable inside the windshield's plastic trim aided by a trim removal tool (such as in this kit: Trim Removal Tool Set) then ran the cable underneath the glovebox and then along the center console front seam. That got me real close to the cigarette lighter socket where I plugged it in. The only part you can see is the short section of cable from the top of the center console to the socket but it's hardly noticeable. For a more inconspicuous installation, you can use an add-a-tap to plug into the fuse box in the right side of the passenger footwell.

Thanks - this was my main concern as the trim piece seems much firmer/less flexible than other cars I've owned and I was afraid I would have to remove it or risk breaking the glass. Guess I'll have to just put on my big boy pants and take the chance!

Appreciate the reply.

Any info on this would be great.
If I do "need" a dashcam I used my GoPro. Two batteries, if you lower the quality of the video it can store a long video. I have a suction cup to pop on to the window when needed.

Just received this one and will install today, most OEM looking and no wires to run.

Installed last night but did not have time to take it for a spin and travel until the end of next week. However, the installation was pretty straightforward, even though separating the original housing and putting in the new housing made me use some words I usually do not use, especially in a 100deg garage. It does connect to the mirror connector and seems to sense when the car is off by using all three wires and not just power (which is always on). Removing the connector also allowed me to install my R7 radar unit to the same connector and using a mirror mount.

There is obviously no display and access is via an app, but it is well-integrated and easy to connect to, the video quality seems to be great, at least on my phone.

I will take some pictures when back and go through some testing, will see about the longlivity, but hope it lasts as long as I keep the car.

That looks amazing. How does the plastic piece look/feel compared to the OEM part?

If anything, seems like a good reason to get the glass/acrylic wind deflector!

How did you run the wire back there? ODB no issues I assume?

Agree getting that clear rear glass may be a great idea for this reason alone.

Just ran the wire under the trim at the back of the seat and then under the rubber by the sill straight to the OBD port and plugged both in there using a Garmin connector

Thanks for the data-point. I might pick one of those up with my new Z4.

I currently run a garmin mini2 on my Boxster which I'm pretty happy with (cabled from the fuse-box), but if I can get something even more integrated that'd be great.

Two questions:
  1. So this does not record while parked, right? Or, if it does, how's the battery drain?
  2. If you have a fitted sunshade, does it cause issues witht he extra bump near the mirror?

It does not, unlike the radar detector that is powered from the same connector, the camera uses 3-pins, with the third probably telling it to shut down when the car shuts down after a couple minutes. There is however the option to hardwire it, so it never turns off I guess.

No idea about the sunshade, as I do not have one I'm afraid.

Timdon - so I've got my front and rear dash cam with battery backup 90% installed.

The issue I'm having is getting the rear wire routed to the rear camera. I've gotten it past the door but in the photo below I cannot seem to get the wire to go upwards from that point. And if I go across I end up with no way to then go upwards without the wire showing.

Can you share how you ran the wire from the door jamb upwards?

I have this front Garmin too, in the same place. It looks very neat and sits nicely without looking out of place or obtrusive.

Mine is wired like this with just a USB plug into the cubby there. I do find the wire has started to rattle within the windscreen trim bit but I solve that with the volume of the stereo
