Z4 Alexa Intermittent issues

Good morning,

I have a 2022 Z4 and am having issues with the Alexa integration. It appears to work only when it feels like it! It was working fine when I set it up last week, then earlier this week it stopped working. I tried a number of things but to no avail. Yesterday, it decided to work fine again but today I'm getting the same error message. I haven't changed anything and I have always had data signal when it refuses to work. All other connected services are working fine.

Any ideas please?
TIA

I’ve found the same thing. Alexa sometimes works and sometimes it doesn’t. I have a feeling it’s related to the quality of the network connection at the time you say “Alexa”, but I have no hard evidence.

I try to avoid using any voice commands until at least 20 seconds after I start my car. Otherwise connection with phone and network might not even be ready and that confuses the heck out of IDrive7.

Now that IDrive8 is here, I wonder if updates stop for ID7?

I can't imagine that BMW would stop sending out updates for iDrive 7 when needed with so many cars on the road that are using it.

I had some issues first few days after initial set up. Always when starting the car and asking Alexa to open my garage door. Now, no more issues. Maybe she is learning on her mistakes.
What I did notice is that sometimes, mostly with roof down, I have to speak up for her to acknowledge my command.

Frankly, if you look at all of the applications and systems that are being integrated it’s a wonder that it works as well as it does. As a minimum Siri, Alexa and BMW Assistant are all out there having to coordinate and then you throw in Apple CarPlay and all of the applications that run under that like Waze, Spotify, Google Maps, Apple Maps, etc, etc. Having supported many system integration efforts in the past I’m comfortable giving them a pass on the Alexa issues.

IMHO, the best solution when you are having Alexa issues like this is to buy an iPhone and say "Hey Siri"!
