It looks like Adaptive Mode works on my 2023 X5 IF I use the voice input (press and release microphone button on steering wheel and say Adaptive Mode) even though I don't have an Adaptive Mode button. Now someone need to see if you can put the 2023 Z4 in Adaptive Mode using voice input. Seems the function work, but there is no button for it.

Do you get an indicator showing Adaptive Mode?

Build a 2023 Z4 loaded and compare it with a 2022 loaded. We are talking $75,000 versus $73,xxx. I’m not talking basically equipped cars. If you want me to get specific that will take me some time but I’ve configured both. Base price has stayed the same but other stuff has gone down like you said. There’s another thread that discusses 2023 Z4 price reductions.

Does the word “Adaptive” appear on your instrument cluster?

I’ve had this in past BMWs and didn’t really use or understand it. It might have been useful if able to default to it at every start up so I’m not surprised it’s going, or gone.

With Bimmercode you can set your drive mode to start up with the one you like best or it may be you can set it to the last one you used. I can't recall just now.

Depends when exactly the 2022 was built. See this post:

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...rice+increases

BMW raised the starting MSRP from $63,700 to $65,300 on the M40 model back in May. If you had a 2022 built prior to then it was cheaper than the 2023. If you have a fully loaded 2022 built after it is more than the 2023. Difference being the Active CC went from $1,200 to $550 and the Vernasca leather went from $1,700 to $1,500 from 2022 to 2023.

I had the option to buy a late build 2022 off a dealer lot. It was fully loaded, but when I built the exact same 2023 model it came out less because of the two options above. Because of this I decided to order a 2023 so I could get the exact color combination I wanted. Dealer wouldn't give me good enough discount to make up for the price difference.

So yes, you're right that the 2023 is cheaper than a late-build 2022. Those who got the early 2022 models got them cheaper than an equivalent 2023.

I do wish they'd cut out some of this cost-cutting crap. They've just recently raised prices, and in some models they've been raised twice in the past few months. It's dumb stuff too. On the 3 series forums, one of the things that was noticed was the climate control wheels that allow you to close/open the vent. On my 2021, they all were backlit. On the 2023, only the two center ones are backlit, while the others are not. They also had cut out some of the ambient lighting in the door pockets.

Like what can this button cost them to put in? A few cents?
American Airlines once saved $40,000 in one year by eliminating one olive from the first class cabin’s salad.

In 1987 Northwest Airlines saved $500,000 by cutting limes into 16 pieces instead of 10 for its drinks service.

Yeah, I get that. It’s the combination of price increases and cutting stuff out that irks me. Everyone wants to blame inflation. Says they need to raise prices. Yet everyone is reporting record profits. If the price increases matched inflation, profit margins would stay the same. At this point it’s just an excuse.

I agree with you 100%. Inflation has been made into a scam. A very profitable scam.

Interesting, thank you. So in your case with your X5, (which may or may not apply to others or all across the board), the Adaptive button was eliminated but the Adaptive functionality remains…

I am wondering if your car has Hill Descent Control. If it does, then the HDC button takes the place of the Adaptive button. So the existence of Adaptive mode (albeit via other commands besides button) would make sense then.

Do you think we will be able to add the adaptive button back? I know the auto-start deactivate button was able to be added back if it was missing.

Yes I do have HDC and the HDC button is where the Adaptive button should be, but my Owner's manual show the Adaptive button where it should be (below the ECO button) and the HDC button to the right below the gear shift. So I don't see why they needed to remove the Adaptive button because there is plenty of room for both.

I guess that if the wiring is still there the Adaptive button could be added back, but where would you put the button. It would be easier to just push and release the microphone button (or say your car's wake up words) and say "Adaptive Mode".

I have a '22 s30i built on the last day before the price hike. A '23 build of the same car is approximately $1300 more than my MSRP but includes the HUD that was unavailable for '22 s30i and the heated steering that was previously a separate option (not selected).

I'd have gladly paid an additional $1300 for the HUD and heated steering (despite frequently being unable to read the HUD due to my polarized sunglasses).

Do you need polarized? I wear glasses and, I purchased a set of non-polarized from Zenni Optical specifically for driving the Z4.

I also have a pair of non polarized sunglasses that I keep in my Z4. For all other outdoor situations I use a pair of Maui Jims (who only make polarized lenses) and am constantly switching my sunglasses back and forth.

Polarized lenses do help in many situations, especially where I live near the intercoastal and the Atlantic Ocean and frequent the beaches in my area.

I just tried "Hey BMW, please activate Adaptive mode" her response " I'm sorry but your car isn't equipped with that feature. So what is available on an X isn't necessarily available on the Z.

For what it's worth, I just tried the same thing on my MY23 X3 M40i and got the same response.
