Help replacing cracked shifter
Hey everyone. New G29 owner here. I’ve had many BMW’s and just enjoying this 2020 30i. The previous owner damaged the shifter (see pic). I want to replace the clear piece that is cracked just above the parking brake. I don’t think I can get it apart enough to replace only the cracked piece. So if I buy a new or used shifter, will it have to be coded to the vehicle to work properly ? Any help is appreciated.

i dont think you need to recode it, i swapped my idrive wheel/buttons with those of a wrecked 1series, no coding was needed
You can still remove the shift knob, maybe then you can remove the part below.

I sure hope so. Not really sure how all the damage happened. But I can source the parts easily. I just know that there are a lot of electronics confined in the housing of the shifting unit. |

buttons potentionally not working was a bit less of a risk than potentially not being able to shift how long did it take you to remove the unit? I took me a full day

[QUOTE=RavenGX;30297893]yeah hopefully it works out.

It took about an hour and a half. I’ve done this type of work before so maybe that helped. I also had good directions for the removal of the center console. I really want to replace the shifter section. Just wanna make sure about coding before I order parts and stuff |

Maybe also check in the 1 and 3 series forum (pre-lci), i think they have exact the same console piece (minus the roof button), chanses are bigger you'll find someone who has been in a similar situation
