BMW wants buyers to buy via CPO and not new.

These price increases have been SOP for years.

I was waiting for someone to bring this up.

this won't change a thing. I'm surprised BMW doesn't make us paint the cars after delivery

Im glad that I own my last 16M3, which I will keep it till the wheels fall off.

Tesla has an unbelievable warranty, faster cars and no gas, hummm... + lots of rebates

BMW is definitely taking the wrong turn here in my point of view.

To eliminate / or noticeably reduce orange peel means more time in body shop pre and post paint.

More expenses after the USD/EUR has gotten better (it's about 15% better than it was 2 years ago) for BMW. They just had model price increases and now add more and paint too. IMO they're product, other than M cars, has been disappointing in recent years. Not helping with convincing people to stay. This impending car finance bubble is going to bite them hard.

I mean, if you're charging me $400 more, I would hope it would stay in the shop longer. Mercedes-Benz charged $720 for metallic paint and it's pretty darn good.

I don't disagree, but I doubt the orange peel will go away. Even a $100K M5 has orange peel as does the new 7 series, so it's clearly not on their radar.

The newer water based paints and dry electrostatic processes used may have something to do with the issue.

Also, with modern processes less than 1 gallon of paint is used per car. Base and clear coats are thin as ever. Probably more durable, but thinner.

Why are you guys bickering over $300? BMW already announced that some options will be come standard like on the the G30 soft close doors and auto trunk will be standard (I think there where a few others)that is way more than $300. I think BMW AG has finally got there heads out of there a@#e's and realized crap $20,000 cars have better standard equipment. So that is why I think they are increasing base price.

Sounds more like maybe he is jumping to Hyundai.

Every $1000 is about ~$30 on a lease. Every $1000 spent on options adds roughly ~$15.

For me, I love my M3, think it's the shit and think it outperforms most other cars in its price point. It never fails to put a grin on my face from ear to ear...If the price of a car going up $300 is going to tweak your shit, maybe you'd be better off looking at a used Kia, or Hyundai...Just saying is all
Are you not able to read? No one here is complaining about $300 breaking the bank. What the concern is that BMW is charging us more and getting less in return (warranty cuts, etc)

For sure.

A base price Porsche will soon be sold without wheels and tires

Supposedly they make more $ overall if the initial sale is a lease because leased cars are usually loaded with options. Years ago there was a blurb from someone affiliated with corporate about the "sales cycle" it maybe it was called the "vehicle life cycle".

Lease first then sell a 2-3 yr old car via CPO.

No guys, your dollar is just losing value. Thanks, Fed. You guys rock.

Yeah I'm in the Model 3 line like half a million others. Leasing just doesn't fit our lifestyle so we're a buy it and run it to 200k family. At our current burn rate that's about 7 years a car. I can't imagine what nonsense they'll try to ask for for the X7 and how that compares to the GLS and XC90.
