hdr=bad

hey, you asked what i thought. ;]

now that i look at it more, it's not so much an HDR, just looks like it. but you've tried to take certain elements from the typical HDR and apply it here. the overdone USM, weird tone-curves, etc...

thanks for the honest opinion, its not going in my portfolio so its not something I would consider my "official stuff" you know? haha. hdr to me is one of those guilty pleasures you either hate or love. As for me I can decide whether or not I hate it or love....

Certainly different though, that I have to admit....

Cool

To be honest, I like it.

It has a surreal look to it, kind of the way I see the F430 Scuderia in my dreams.

I think it would actually look pretty good without the shadow on the near side of the car. Definitely something I could see on a billboard or in a magazine. Not very realistic but it is not supposed to be

KAN,
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. One way to achieve this type of photo is to take several different exposures of the same photo and merge them in an editing software (like photoshop). It is good way to get the most color, luminosity and clarity out of whatever scene you are photographing. It can easily be overdone and look fake but I think the OPs picture looks great.

For me what ruins the photo is the white halo around the car. I like the dramatic high contrast look of HDRs from an artistic point of view, but halos kill it, IMO. Aside from that, I like it.

I like it...
Not because of the HDR, but because it makes the car jump out of the pic.

So is photography in general if you think about it. Everyone is a professional photographer these days.

Nah I love photography (as evidenced by my username) I think it gets better the more people who get into it. I just don't like a lot of HDR shots because they look bleached and harsh.

HDR doesn't have to look that way. You can make it as natural as you want just like any post processing. A good example is trying to shoot a black car on a really sunny day. It's not a perfect example, but getting good contrast on my car on a sunny day usually means a very over-exposed background. Of course I could easily solve this by lighting the car, but HDR provides another option as well as give you a bit more creative freedom.

No HDR:

I really don't like it. Like everyone else says. It's WAY to dramatic. The original looks better.

I actually like it. Sure it looks way too overdone, but it looks good. Having said that, I'm no pro photographer by any means, so just a viewer's opinion.

On a side not, I dream of having those types of clouds in Toronto. We always have a boring light blue sky with no clouds and no colour variations. Those clouds add a lot to the photo, especially in HDR.

+1. HDR can be good at times (read: should be seldomly used) but most of the time the images look way too processed.
