Fit and finish

Maybe this is 'normal', but external fit and finish seems a little bit questionable on the Z4. Specifically the lower edges on the hood not lining up with the fender and the gas lid looking a bit off. For a second I thought the gas door was not closed properly.

Thoughts?

Mine doesn't look like that in either place.

Mine was the same. You can adjust the bonnet slightly by opening it and turning the black stoppers. It looks like maybe yours is slightly higher on one side?

I got my dealer to fit a new filler cover to solve the other problem.

That is not "normal". The dealer can fix it.

When the weather warms up this spring I will take the car in to get this stuff looked at. There's another Z4 on the showroom floor to compare it to as well.

I had the car in today for an idrive7 update to fix BMW Connected issues. They ordered a new gas door because the one on my car is tweaked. I think it could be bent by hand to fit better, but I'll wait for the replacement. Another Z4 in the showroom did not have this issue.

Something is not correct with that car (sorry to say) I've looked over many a dealer car and test driven fro a day and panel gaps, whilst not RR and Bentley levels, were consistent and tolerable.

I would be taking that in to the dealer for a look....

The showroom Z4 M40i has the same weird mis-alignment of the hood with the fender. So I am thinking that's possibly normal, but strange why it is like that. Nobody has posted a picture of their hood/fender alignment so I have nothing else to compare to.

My hood (bonnet) is similarly misaligned. Hadn't noticed until the first time I hand polished. It's not awfully noticeable but certainly annoying. I'll mention it at my next servicing.

It could be 'normal'. There are 2 different side skirts and maybe one aligns better with the hood than the other? I have an M40i and from several feet away it's not really noticeable. What I dislike more from an aesthetic perspective is the big gap between the fender and bumper right behind the headlights. There is such an inconsistency in the way the panels align in the front of this car.

Update:

Sorry, no pics as the car is at the detailer getting stek dynoshield paint protection film and a ceramic coating. The dealership brought in a new fuel lid, but it had the same fitment issue plus it wasn't painted (by the dealer) as good as it could have been. Since it is plastic, they used a heat gun on the original to bend it a bit. I did not examine it too much, but the alignment seemed a lot better now.

Nobody has posted pictures of their front fender / hood alignment so I have to assume all are like this, until I see otherwise.

My m40i also has the same weird mis-alignment problem.
I found it when I picked the vehicle from the dealer.
I dont really care about it, just pray the B58tu engine will be reliable

Ok, here is the gas fill door after the dealer adjusted it with a heat gun.

Hi Rob, I’m on a run of reviving old threads, apologies

Do you have other pics of your hood/bonnet misalignment as I can’t quite work out where you mean but on mine I’ve found the left hand side of the vehicle the edge of the bonnet where it meets the wing isn’t as flush as it is on the right side

As above, try adjusting the black stoppers underneath the bonnet. Turn slightly and if it makes things worse, turn a bit more the other way.

Nothing to share at the moment. Unless it's really noticeable I would just leave it alone.

Gas door is OK with very, very slight misalignment on hood to fender passenger side joint. Not worth trying to fix & maybe less that half as bad as in the threads pictures.
