That'll show them for sure!

They already make the money doing more work and usually physical work than is legal there, and then when they send money home to support their families, you rob them.

Hey you also give money to the UN. Maybe take that away too because hungry people become terrorists more often than those who are well nourished.

Agree, then much of the money that is sent to Mexico is by legal citizens of the U.S., I guess it is OK to take their money. Another alternative is to have every person of Mexican descent (here legally or not) required to send extra money to the U.S. Government each month. Kind of a Mexican tax. Tough luck that your family came here legally many decades ago.

It would also take about a week to set up a black market system to divert money to some other country before it went to Mexico for far less than the 1/2 tax proposed.

I need you to travel back in time, convince your parents to birth you in the US and become POTUS.

bs. The wall would stop that too, it stops it all!

It would be a nice business to some human trafficker looking to move up in the world! (there isn't an emoji for this feeling of gut wrenching fury mixed with the need to laugh at the absurdity of this whole wall project)

I used to joke about retiring from my current position to take over the world. It isn't funny after uncle Vlad and the big D actively destroy all the progress we've done in the last 70 years in the matter of days or years (putin works slower)

You do realize that regardless of your (and many of the members here) opinion on them, that they have contributed to a significant portion of the laboring force and economic fortitude of this country, right? So the money that they have made here ON THOSE GROUNDS, a large percentage of which (obviously) goes back into the country's capitalistic cycles and for their own sustenance (because again, it is clear that every illegal immigrant is not a drug-trafficking, freeloading, crime-dealing rapist), and a portion of which they use to support their families back home, should be used to...establish a tax for building a wall that would keep this type of behavior out in the first place.

Seems legit. Fucking hell.

hey Post 114

All products coming into the US from Mexico pay import duty, stop paying non-US citizens welfare = money for the wall. A tax on all international phone calls going and coming to Mexico. All money being sent to Mexico will be Taxed, maybe seized. Just some ideas

Don't forget the phone calls!

BTW I did not know it was that much, but I am not surprised.

Yes, you make some good points here. The question? Are they paying Income Tax, you know like you and me?

Stop paying your income tax and wait and see what happens.

Screw the human trafficking business, I go on vacation to Mexico. Mexican can give me a couple thousand dollars and I will hand over 90% (keeping 10%) to a guy at the airport over there. I don't believe there is anything against the law with going on vacation with $5k.

Right?
So you agree with every project that the government has done your entire working life? They take your hard earned money and buy all sorts of stuff that you might not agree with, right? They take your money and give it away to illegal immigrants. There are lots of ways to slice this.

I'm fine with taxing it, but taking half is a bit extreme.

People begrudgingly pay taxes, but no one really has to pay a 50% tax, well in certain circumstances you might but those are fringe cases with regards to estate tax and what not.

Sadly this human trafficking is going on now. They are called Coyotes, immigrants pay them a lot of money to sneak them across the border. Some of these Coyotes leave them without food, water and shelter to die of exposure. They don't care, about anything but the money. The wall will stop this for sure.

To be honest with you, I would love to stop paying my income tax.

But yes, most of these individuals get paid under the table for their work. By who? People who actually pay their income taxes. What it looks like is illegal labor for [cheap] > documented usage of employee resources for reporting purposes.

What would be a relatively feasible solution, given the circumstances surrounding the magnitude of this demographic, would be to institute a program for them to quantify earnings combined with their "employers'" (who are also at fault) obligation to report upon labor usage and origin. It doesn't make sense to attack the problem headfirst because of what people choose to hone in on. For example, I can complain about my F80 falling behind on Car and Driver's rating behind the C63 and Alfa Quadrifoglio based off of the ineptitude of the car, or I can enjoy it for what it truly brings to the table.

It is obviously not perfect, and I can understand both sides of this equation, but the truth of the matter lies in the post you responded to and the livelihood that, like you and I, these folks are attempting to salvage through their efforts.

I'm very aware of those lovely businessmen. This wall will do nothing to stop them, the only way to get the traffic to stop is if everyone only uses legal employees, from carpenters to gardeners, from cleaning ladies to hookers.

You either make the tax tiny or they work around it. Then if it is tiny it won't solve the problem.

Millions of people go back and forth to Mexico each year legally, all carrying some amount of cash. Your plan for stopping them from leaving part of it there?

We can't stop drugs which are completely illegal and far easier to detect (any drugs are illegal but some amount of cash is fine). We will create a new force of people trying to find cash going south? Good news is we will have more people employed by the government.

The wall will reduce illegal immigration some amount but no one believes it will end it. I haven't even heard what the expected outcome is and it amazes me that we are considering a $20 billion project with no projections on what the outcome will be.

People come across the border in trailers, trunks, tunnels, with fake paperwork, etc. the wall will do nothing about these options and reality is these other ways of coming will grow with the wall in place.

It also does nothing for those who fly into the US with valid visas and just stick around once the visas expire.
