Working iPod anyone have any luck
I have an old working iPod classic (2008) that I hoped to use with my Z4. It turns on and charges and gives me the standard screen on the iPod. On the car's head unit it sees the iPod but I cannot select songs or navigate. I have all my music and playlist in itunes.
has anyone had a iPod work? I could get a newer IPod touch...

Why don’t you just use your iPhone? Don't use Iphone. I tried to use an old iphone with no sim and it triggered Apple Car Play and complained about lack of sim. I just want my playlists

Apple has developed their ecosystem such that you need to subscribe to Apple Music to take full advantage of your playlists, frustrating I know. Even with my iPhone, though I could play any song on it, I couldn't access the playlists I'd created until I subscribed to Apple Music. They claim the limitation is due to negotiated rights but I don't believe it.

MJPOSNER:
We have newer iPod Touch [gen 6 and 7] that work just fine in both our '21 X3 and '21 Z4 [and in a previous '21 330]. We connect them via usb. You may be able to find one of those iPods on ebay. Or if you are desperate, PM me and maybe we could work out a deal one of our old iPod 6s Duncan |

Oh, well that is frustrating. Wonder if there’s an adapter that has usb on one end and an aux jack on the other. I assume that work work.

I only wanted to use it to download the Z4 software upgrades, but the Ipod software is not compatible. I don't use the radio, as I am hearing impaired.

on my previous bmw you needed a special cable from bmw to get the old ipod to work didnt work with the cables from apple. (it had an ipod conector to usb and audio jack). The new bmw models use usb c, you can try asking at the dealership if they have a new type of connector.
But i'm afraid 2008 is ancient unsupported hardware. I switched over to spotify when i switched cars.

The iPod worked in my 2013 BMW M6 and my 2019 M4 (both F gen). Both used just usb a connection (not the older split connection). The Z4 has a usb a connector in the front cubby, that is where I connected my iPod.
I dug out my two generation old cracked screen ipad mini. Got it to work, will test that next.

So I found another 30 pin cable and tested with my iPod classic and now it works! It shows the ipod but does not show playlist and a choice, but if you select search, you can then select playlists and voila!
