COVID-19 Possibly Hitting Home

So my stepdaughter who is 21 was showing symptoms Monday evening and got tested. She had a temp of 103, shortness of breath, coughing, almost total loss of taste/smell, etc... While at the hospital she informed us that they mentioned to her after her X-ray that they saw ‘stuff’ that COVID patients have in their lungs.

Since then she has been quarantined in her room, temp down to 98, not coughing as much but taste/smell still not back. She thinks that a package from China she received a week ago was the culprit as she didn’t disinfect the package/items. But wouldn’t that be over the 72 hour limit? She has high blood pressure but overall is in good spirits. Wife and I couldn’t sleep at all that night as we are worried but so far she seems to be handling it well.

I feel that during our move from Miami to Indiana is when she got it, maybe at a rest stop as she drove up with a friend and wasn’t with us when we moved. This is in Gods hands and I’ll take the 95% chance that she’ll survive but chances are that now my wife, 13 year old son and I could also be infected. We’ll wait for the results and go from there. So far, we haven’t showed any signs yet.

Hope she will weather this through.
She did not get this from an inanimate object.
Every person she has been in contact with needs to be quarantined for the good of the community at large.
THIS IS WHETHER YOU SHOW SIGNS OR NOT.
Best wishes for you all.

Start to prepare for the rest of the family to get infected, hopefully that won't happen but prepare now with food and supplies. Start wearing face masks and take everyone's temperature twice a day. Be well.

Yes. Anyone she has been in the same room with, and was speaking to, will likely get the transmission.

Best wishes for this. Just got thru a mini-quarantine waiting for results, and it is a whole different kind of stress. The odds are certainly in her favor to pull through unharmed, but I know that doesn't stop the worrying until everybody is on the back side of it and recovered.

So, you driving the Uber tonight?
JOKING, just trying to lift his spirits a bit.

My oldest, who lives in front room, is a nurse on the local COVID floor. My dad won't even talk to me any more, I get a text every now and then. Wife tried to drop some avocados from our backyard on their doorstep, they may still be there.

So sorry to hear this. Lots of good advice provided in posts above.

Keep each other protected in the house for the next couple weeks, regardless if they exhibit signs and symptoms.

Best wishes to you and the fam and wishes your daughter a speedy recovery.

There is so much FUD surrounding virus transmission...

There is no way a package from China can spread the virus to someone in the US. Unless you did express air or something, shipping time is more than a week. The variations in heat and humidity also kills the virus very quickly while shipping.

Most likely it would be from someone nearby that had it.

FWIW... 5 people in my companies NYC office had it...

All of varying ages and backgrounds... some 60 years old.

All were decommissioned for a few days but are now all OK.

Damn, that sucks. Best wishes for her full recovery and that the rest of your clan avoid the bug.

good luck with that.

If it can help, my wife its the same since last friday. And it doesn't seems to be that bad, at least not enough to go at the hospital. She's 'young' enough, 31.

101°F, muscle pain, sleepy, no taste, cough... etc.

Strange thing tho, its been 6 days and its not worst , not better.

My brother and my sister are doctors, so they look at her very closely to avoid sending her at the hospital, and getting worst.

Not fun with 2 young kids (1 and 2.5 yo). Shes in a room alone since 6 freaking days.

Worst part, in 3.5 weeks she got out 2 times for the groceries... Not like if we meet a ton of people.

Make sure she drinks water and tries eating when she can!! It most likely won't develop into anything serious but you should randomly check up on her and listen to her breathing while she sleeps (for a few seconds, not in a creepy way). That was the biggest indicator that my dad had pneumonia from COVID and led me to take him in when he said he otherwise wouldn't of known and felt "fine".
