G29 Transmission vs E89 Transmission?
Hey guys, I currently have a Z4 sdrive35is, just wondering if anyone can compare the dual clutch in mine to the 8 speed auto in the new G29, particularly interested in M40i configuration if that matters - I don't think it does. I love the way mine shifts (I like to use the paddles when driving more spirited), does the new car shift as quick? Thanks.

Can’t speak for the E89 dual clutch system but can attest to the 8HP gearbox being amazing. It has a triple clutch and according to stats it shifts in 200ms.
In real experience in S mode I find it incredibly smooth, quick and reactive and I love the paddle action too (but S is so good I often leave it there). I told it will change non-sequentially too if needed but it’s so smooth I haven’t noticed particularly. An interesting write up here; https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/05/02/v...-the-business/ And another; https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...f-eight-speed/ In short, I love it.

Yes its just as quick & hits really hard in Sport+ stick left & Stability off. Will chirp the tires on a 1/2 shift at WOT everytime.
Have run sub 4 second 0-60 low 12's 1/4 mile on Launch Control as measured by a "Draggy" GSP device pure stock with factory tires. Think a JB4 tune will put it in the 3.5 second to 60 range. Had a tuned 335is 7DCT.

Dct transmission shifts great. Had it in my e89, but its no fun. I prefer the G29. You can't power brake a dct. I like to make a quick u turn and smoke the tires. You can't do that with the e89 dct. I always hated my 35is for that reason.

I never used the paddle shifters in either the E89 or the G29 so I can't comment on that. I will say the transmission shifts better and the whole drive train is much more responsive. I liked driving the E89, I love driving the G29. Not only the drive train, but everything except for cup holders is better.
