At the expense of what though? Completely giving up what BMW stood for, and producing mass appeal FWD econoboxes that sell well to people who care more about the badge than anything?

Yeah Mercs might have the edge but Toyota is whopping both BMW's as and Mercs so that says a lot.

But this ain't a surprise consider how much wider market BMW has gotten with all the new models they have been pouring out like the Minivan and such so i guess their strategy a Car for every customer is working.

Maybe BMW M-Brand should become more standalone and only produce car's in its own factory possibly for the enthusiastic market and a good corporation with BMW i-team then we might actually see them appealing to the traditional BMW fans while the regular BMW at the same time getting new customers who likes driving a BMW but knows nothing about cars to the rest of the market.

I could actually see a bright future if BMW M and BMW i became one and pushed out lightweight cars with all the technology that went in to the i3, you don't have to like the i3 but the car is quite good in terms of technology and also weight.

Let BMW M & BMW I-team do all the BMW m235,m240i,m330i,m340i and also if BMW I-team would do models like BMW i3 M and such with the electric drive train but tuned by BMW M.

And let the regular BMW have the M-Sport packages and such without all the m235,m240 etc... cars.

Crazy how Toyota has done so well with the oldest interiors in the business even in their $85k SUV. Also interesting to see that the Big Mac is still so desirable..

Well... reliability is a high priority for many buyers, and Toyota probably has some very brand loyal customers.

This doesn't make much sense for me.

At the moment the whole BMW company is worth a bit more than 40 billion dollars this includes all the factories, undelivered cars, stocked materials, accumulated cash, BMW brand etc. Yet, according to this document, just the BMW brand is worth that much...

I agree that BMW AG is massively undervalued, but still...

That's a better idea, I'd rather see BMW's today without all that m340i m550i etc, On the normal BMW's, I would love to see the good old ///M sport like for example, 340i M sport, 330i M sport, & 550i M Sport.

Well the Corolla and Camry are household names, and being affordable and reliable add value to the utilitarian offerings. Those cars also hold their value very well. The only thing that sucks is how often they are stolen.

I mean, have you ever seen what Toyota offers in a 35k car vs what you get from BMW / MB for 35k?

It's pretty clear Toyota is a MUCH better deal.

Does this mean I should trade in my Z4 and X5 for a plate of chicken McNuggets and a Coke?

Nah, even Cadillac at least figured out how to make fun driving cars, they just failed on so many other aspects like interior design, materials, desirability, etc.

Hence the reason why BMW / MB is introducing a whole bunch of cheaper budget low end cars, in which enthusiast hate and say it is the end of BMW. However, BMW keeps hitting record high sales and releasing new cars, so doubt they really care about the enthusiasts as much.

I said this before but I cross shopped my wife's X1 with a Rav4 limited, Subaru forester sport, CRV Limited etc. X1 was our choice, the cost was similar when similarly optioned - leather / nav included.

A car is not the sum of its options/amenities. If that were the case we would all be driving Hyundai's. I get your overall point however. I miss the days where you got a bit more for your money where options were concerned.

I am glad to see BMW in the top 20. Yet BMW senior management ought to be more aware that those who fail to reinvent themselves will become obsolete at some point.

GM became increasingly irrelevant with a multitude poorly focused brands to excessive reliance on badge engineering at the present time.

Reinvention is not badge engineering.

BMW ok these days if you want a Ford with a BMW badge and pay 20% more for the badge. Otherwise direction is front wheel drive bland styling that could be any EU/Korean/Japanese design. M badges on nearly everything so M means very little these days

New model pricing is a joke in EU

Amazing people still fall for it

Kinda like how people fell for the MB CLA/GLA, Audi A4, etc.!?!?! BMW is joining a club that was already established by other European manufacturers.

In other news germane to the FWD topic....

Simple, just compare Toyota Supra vs BMW Z4.
Which one will you take?
