Alexa can’t connect to the internet
I spent an hour on the phone with the BMW Genius on Friday trying to figure out why Alexa is intermittent on my Z4 without success. We did all of the delete, re-install and rebooting to be done. When it doesn’t work I get “I’m having trouble connecting to the internet”. Has anyone else experienced issues with Alexa reporting that it can’t connect to the internet?
On the positive side, it’s likely a software issue and they can push an update once it is resolved. |

Alexa uses the internet, so that means it connects through your phone. Not sure of your area but over here there are areas you can drive where there is no mobile phone signal so as such Alexa and for that matter Siri can’t connect.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll run some tests to see if other networking apps are working when I’m seeing issues. I can also run Alexa natively on the iphone to help isolate the problem.

My software updated last night, so I just setup Alexa and at least for simple test, it worked fine.

I tried it yesterday and it worked fine as well. I’ll keep an eye on it to see if it acts up again.

Can't Get Alex to Work
I can't get Z4 to recognize Alexa keyword. I got an e-mail from Amazon indicating I had link my account to BMW. The MyBMW app say Alexa is not supported even after I did the update. Weird...

There are several steps needed to enable Alexa that are outlined in this video. They include going into the assistant app in the car and enabling 3rd party access and enabling Alexa in MyBMW app on your phone etc. If you’ve done all of that and it’s still not working I would reboot your car (with the car running hold in the volume button in the center console until the main screen goes blank and then comes back up) and then reboot your phone. If it still isn’t working you can put the car into sleep mode by exiting and leaving it locked for 20 minutes. If after all of that it still isn’t working I would call the genius line and they’ll help you troubleshoot it further.

My app said it wasn't supported as well, but it still allowed me to set up Amazon.

I used Alexa last night to stream music while using Waze on apple CarPlay. It’s surprising how well they all integrate when they work.
