Auto Off - unintended consequences
I’ll chock this up to still getting used to the car, but yesterday I went to the bank and when I pulled in and stopped the engine shut off. I put the car in park, gathered all of my stuff and got out of the car. I was pretty sure when I walked away the car locked. When I got back about 15 minutes later the engine was running. On the positive side, the cabin was nice and cool, but this wasn’t the plan.
I’ve got to get in the habit of actually shutting the car off… |

Oh goodness... there are just some things I prefer to do myself. Turning on the car (remote or in the car) and turning it off. Matter of fact.. the car radio still being on after i turn off the car is still something I'm getting used to.
I don't even like the "auto off" when I come to stop lights. Another thing I want to ask a Genius is to how to make that perma-off and not have to remember to turn it off every single time I get in the car. Not a fan of automatic parking either. |

I’m still figuring out what I find helpful or useful. I just checked the Bimmercode app and you can either fully disable the auto start/stop, or enable memory so that it will retain the last setting when you start the car the next time. It notes that driving in eco pro mode activates the start/stop feature.

Yeah i saw the profile settings and that they require me to log in. Not sure how I feel about that. I'm not the type to use Siri or Alexa or Echo either. Not a fan of having everything networked. Partly because of what I do for a living, I guess.

I feel ya. In my 15 F23, I can setup a profile only in the car. I assumed it was the same.

I’m always reminded that if you are getting a service “for free”, like Siri, Facebook or Alexa, the product is you. Having said that, I use them all. My life is too boring for anyone to care what kind of soap I use.

After being a 5-time victim of identity theft a couple of decades ago, I take great pains to protect my digital life. Happy to say I haven't had to deal with that mess since.

I am in cybersecurity .. I always worry about a hacked car computer. If they are not networked, it's not as much of an issue, but once we start getting the functionality of the car networked then we start to run into issues. For convenience and quality of life, these things are great! But then it's fine until suddenly you car stops working. Especially since these cars are heavily dependent on the inner workings of computer command executions. Everything from suspension to how much engine output we are using is tied into the computer... and a networked computer on top of it worries me. |

I am pretty sure the engine of the car is automatically turned off if car doesn't detect the key near range for more than like 2 min. It's a safety setting and I don't think you can change this. You do have a choice in the menu to auto lock the car if car key is more than few feet away. |
