Z4 died - now soft top doesn't work

I understand it isn't fully the same thing, but you can drive with the windows down. Does the manual top down work? If so, you can operate it like an old school vert.

Yeah I can drive with the windows down, but it's certainly not the same

Operating the top manually isn't something I want to even attempt. There are only instructions for manually putting the top up and even that requires tools and 2 people.

Rob, I really feel for ya. I hope it is resolved in the next week so you can really enjoy it prior to winter. If it is resolved in fall, come down to Texas for the winter. It doesn't get really cold here until February.

Right, unless you were in epicenter of Uri ice storm this winter. Near zero temps, 2000 poles down in our area, weeks without power for some...I'm still cleaning up.

It killed a lot of old native trees.

You don't have to tell me, went without power for the 48 hours of that worst cold in over 100 years. Having a gas water heater, and a fifth of scotch were the saving graces.

Once the Z4 is finally fixed, then I can get the M340I fixed.... There are issues with sunroof catching/jamming on something and a rattle from the engine bay (pulley area).

The Z4 is fixed - it's nice to have a working soft top again!

I'll call BMW tomorrow and see if they will offer anything for the 6 weeks of waiting for repair. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask...

LoL I am the kind of person that drives in heat or cold. Cold is better…. Can wear layers. Now that I live in Texas, it doesn’t get nearly as cold as other places I’ve lived when I had a convertible before. Heat is a bit of an issue here but …. We’ll see how that goes.

Down South it is warmer, but rains more. At least you have the top down in the cold.

We're supposed to get a ton of rain this week and half of next. It was horrible yesterday. In San Antonio it doesn't rain quite as much, but there are times where it's nice and sunny, but it'll rain anyway for 2 min and be done with it lol. Other times it'll rain for a week straight. This has been a very wet spring so far ... more so than usual.

Yes it has and in Houston, June was like August with the heat. It's going to be a hot summer. Oh well, I will have the top down as much as possible.

I’ve been able to drive with the top down every day since I picked it up. It started raining yesterday while I was out, so the top went up and then I had to hose it down and towel if off when I got home. I’m still in the “new car” phase.

I generally don't take mine out in the rain because it's not my daily driver and I don't want to get it dirty. I don't know why the top isn't water repellant....
