Eight Programmable Buttons
When I took delivery of my Z4 in Spartanburg the delivery specialist helped me set up a few of the programmable buttons. I had remembered that I had the same capability to program buttons in my 2008 335i and that I had the first button automatically dial my wife and the second button start navigation home. The delivery specialist said that was a waste of the programmable buttons as one could simply use the speech button to ask BMW or Siri to do those things. I'm not sure that is the case as the speech function doesn't seem to work consistently. Anyway, I'm interested to know what others have programmed those buttons to do. Currently I only have five of the eight programmed.
1. Call wife 2. Take me home 6. Split Screen 7. Presets 8. Weather |

In my 340i I had set buttons to do the following:
—Take me home. —Parent’s house. —Stereo EQ. —Turn off control display. Didn’t know what to do with the others. I imagine I’ll set up the Z4 the same way. Regarding buttons to call someone being a waste - I think it’s just faster to push the button than using voice. Charles |

The Presets Button I have programmed brings up Apple Carplay as an option so it kind of kills two birds with one button although it does require two actions. That was a suggestion at delivery - works well for me as I'm often times switching between XM and Apple Carplay.

Good information...I could never figure that out on the M235. The minor gripe I've lived with is inconsistent radio station saves. It turns out the problem is with operator headspace and timing.
I will definitely pay more attention when I collect mine...thanks all. |

Different car(s), but same buttons:
1-5: Radio Presets 6: Apple CarPlay 7: TPMS (this is honestly used the most) 8: Sport Displays (M8)/ xDrive View (X7) I had some navigation and call buttons setup over the years, but that was a pain if I accidentally pressed one on occasion, so I rely on "hey BMW" for that since I wasn't using them enough to remember which was which without hovering over the button.

Interesting list. My steering intervention is a one time set and forget, under what circumstances do you change it? My trip data is displayed on the center display and I'll cycle through some of the other displays using the button on the turn signal stalk. Weather shows on the main LCD in a swipeable window as does the G-meter,etc. My XM is one of my presets as is Apple Carplay so I access each after pressing the presets button. I like the suggestion in a post above to turn off the display with one of the buttons. I'll press that one when I'm just into driving!

2. There is more info in trip data screen, and I really don't like cycling through the center display. Yes, I can flick to it (and sport and weather), but I find it quicker to dedicate a button. 3. Never have bothered to turn off the screen, but might replace one of my buttons for that. Note, only had my Z for less than a month. I'm still figuring out what I really use and what I don't.

I just realized I haven't driven the car at night yet! 2400 miles all during the day. I'll have to check it out and see how distracting the HUD is in the dark. I love having all that info just below my sightline and may just program a button for dimming it? We'll see.
