Selling my Z4M40i...what should I expect value wise

So I really really like my 2020 Z4 but due to a D I lost my access to an SUV and my new post-Dlifestyle is hampered by having only the Z4. I have two dogs (one is 50 lbs) so its the dogs or a passenger. I have no way to take my bike or kayak out.

I am getting carmax and edmunds offer of $45,000. Seems a bit low, but when you factor in sales tax savings on a trade in of $3,000, maybe $48k isn't too bad.

Do you think $50k retail is possible or am I wasting my time?

To me, a major factor in determining the value of a used car is the mileage and how much time remains on the warranty.

Also, have you considered listing it privately which I know is a PIA but you will be paid more for the Z4?

Try WeBuyAnyCar, if there is one near you. You have to look online, their physical locations are not large or easy find. But, they have a broker network that usually pays more than anyone else. I sold my Mustang GT for $5k more than CarMax offered. As mentioned, mileage and any remaining warranty, will be big factors. Most people will not buy a BMW without a warranty or CPO. Without any warranty, you may not get more than what you have been offered.

It also helps if the car has a clean Carfax report.

Car has a clean Carfax Report.
Regular warranty through May 2024
Its a cpo car with cpo warranty through May 2025 (not sure if it can be transferred).

Mileage is 29,400 and going up slowly.

Assuming I can get $48k from dealer with sales tax, can I get much more selling private?

From what I can find, that looks pretty close to market. Which implies that $46-$48k trade-in would be about right. $45k is definitely on the low side without the tax advantage.

We Buy Cars said $39K. Far below Carmax and Edmunds 45k.

Wow, that's a surprise! That would indicate the market for a used Z4 isn't particularly strong.

Companies that give you lowball prices are not indicative of the true value of your car.

Yeah, from my experience different companies are all over the board when doing this. I reached out to everyone I could find to get the best price. I wouldn't look at one low offer as the market being bad.

WeBuyAnyCar doesn't low ball. They do an appraisal and present it to a network of brokers, who bid on the car. A low offer is indicative of low interest. Plus, if you find the offer too low, you can say what you want for it and see if there are any takers. Really, it's just basically a private auction. There are always brokers willing to pay a premium for low miles. Unfortunately, nearly 30k miles for this Z4, would not be desiferable.

Speaking of auctions, there is always BAT. Z3/Z4 models do well there.

I'm not saying they lowball, but he has an offer for $6K more from Carmax. Just saying that sometimes (depending on the model) some places offer more than others.

I agree and based on what WeBuyAnyCar offered, I'd say the Carmax offer is about as good as it gets.

Have you tried posting on carsandbids.com? Its an auction site for actual buyers and sellers and not companies. You may get a good price there.

Sold mine last year for 58k (2020 15k miles) but that was in the middle of the shortage.

Values are trending down fast. If you are going to make a change I would not linger over it. The '24 LCI's are already in the mix which will further depress the originals value.
