I don't believe in those cold air intakes. They may sound nice, increase air flow a bit, and maybe even increase horsepower a smidge but it's at the cost of passing more contaminants to your engine.

As you may know, to take full advantage, you would also need to install a more open exhaust. With more air in, ideally you want more air (exhaust gas) out.

In my opinion, the cool factor and minimal performance improvement doesn't warrant the cost but if I did install it, I'd be sure to use more frequent oil change intervals.

It will likely take close to 100K kilometers or more before noticing any damage and can be somewhat mitigated by more frequent oil changes. Your intake side will accumulate dirt somewhat faster, perhaps eventually requiring cleaning and/or replacement of sensors. If you own the car less than 5 years, you're not likely to encounter any issues but the next owner likely will. If/when you trade it in, you should probably re-install the factory intake to maximize trade-in value.

You shouldn't get any fault codes just from installing the cold air intake. Be sure to keep the filter maintained per provided instructions.

The factory cold air intake has more than enough capacity for a stock or lightly modified engine. Aftermarket might make a nicer noise but will not do much for power. Key words in the adds "Up To". Could be no increase, a loss of power or up to 8 crank.

Generally a waste of money if you are not willing to spend a few hundred dollars for a bit of noise.
