Using car cover at the airport?

I just got my car cover, my first planned use is at JFK where I will be gone for about 20 days.

Anyone forsee any potential problems?

That's a tough call. IMO, it may draw further attention to your car. I would not feel comfortable doing it.

OK, that did not help you at all. Sorry!

I've thought of this before, and I couldn't convince myself how the extra attention would be large enough to worry about. Maybe I'm just being too nieve about it. I just want to keep it away from the elements.

Anyone know if there are any parking garages at JFK?

I think it should be fine. Just make sure to "clean" the car before as best you can - so that no dust etc gets mashed into the car, damaging your finish.

I know nothing about JFK but I know that a car covered with the letters 'BMW' on the front pretty much defies what's underneath to all potential thieves and vandals.

Perhaps borrow or try and rent a nearby garage and use public transport for the airport, or get someone to give you a lift. It might not be cost effective, but that depends on what price you put on protecting your pride and joy, an awesome machine and a hefty investment.

Well, the BMW letters are only on one side, which means you might want to park your car head in first against the wall and put the vehicle cover on and lock it up with the cable and lock. You should be fine, I seen other people do it at the airport, but of course i'm talking about Venice Marco Polo Airport, Tokyo, Orlando, SeaTac.

As previously mentioned, I believe that you would be inviting unwanted attention.

I agree. It will draw more attention and curiosity to your car. Also, NEVER put a cover on you car unless it is 100% clean. I'd find a good safe looking end space in the parking garage where the lighting is good. Better yet, have someone drop you at the airport or take a van service. 20 days is a long time to leave your car there. The parking fee will be much more than a limo ride!

I dont undestand , you're from Va, you are driving to JFK to take a flight out?
anyway~!
I agree with most of the guys comments, but to add, even without your car cover, your car is already a bigger attention, bcoz its a new E90. the car with cover helps at least conseal what model it is.

Now, if I was to do what you are doing in Dulles AP, or National AP, I will have no worry, for its wel lit, and the clientele here is much better than JFK.

You will be back before the DC Meet though, right?

Ask yourself this, How big is the lot? Is it lit up? Is there alot of traffic?
The bigger it is the riskier it becomes, so is no lighting. Vehicular and people traffic helps reduce vulnerability, but wont stop it, for no one will care if they see someone taking a car cover off.

People in the lot normally are business people, not low lifes. low lifes in the lot can be easily seen if there is good security.

Your call! Do it! if you can afford to loose a car cover IMHO.

If you're going to be at JFK's longterm parking there is 24/7 security patrolling. I parked there recently and for the record, you'll find plenty of expensive cars parked there -- plenty of Porsches, Mercedes, you name it. A BMW in that lot will draw no special attention. You might argue that a thief isn't going around pulling up the covers of cars to see what's inside -- odds are he'll see what he wants just by driving around. There must be over a 1,000 cars in that lot with people coming and going all the time (even in the middle of the night). Plus you are going to be on camera as you leave.

I can't recall seeing a car with a cover but I'm sure it's done. This is NY -- people wouldn't be fazed by such a thing. I do occasionally see covers on cars at commuter train parking lots in the area.

There are also parking garages closer to some of the Terminals (including the international terminal). But they charge double. The long-term parking area is $15/day -- other lots are $30/day.

For more info....

I wouldn't do it. It's not like your car will be moving so no damage should be done by the elements. Actually if it snows the first day the car will have it's own protection from the elements.

I should throw in that the longterm parking lot is huge and the last time I was there, there were hundreds of spaces not used, so you should be able to park far away from everyone else. You'll just have to walk farther to the train that takes you to the terminal.

Like everybody said, your car is gonna stick out like a sore thumb. How about I drive you to the airport and I'll drive your car back to your place and then pick you up 20 days later? I'll even drive it around every couple of days so the battery does not die out. Let me know...

Hmmm??? . . . let me see??? . . . could it be that the BMW logo cover will be just begging for someone to mess with your car???

As a Native New Yorker who has fled his original home, I would have to agree with fredtoo.

The standard of living in much of New York City is very low and as a result many of its people are high-strung, cynical, condecending and beligerent.

There is a feeling of superiority many New Yorkers feel for no good reason: they see other cities as being "Soft", because New York is so "Hard". They believe that whatever they got, it's the best, despite any evidence otherwise.

I would forget the cover, and park in a well lit, well trafficked place.
-Or Connecticut.

Yes I still don't understand the logic of the OP. Why does he NEED to park his E90 in the JFK parking lot? Can he not just take a taxi service or Van Shuttle to the airport?
