Z4 s20i - opinion on specs

Hi guys,

I am very tempted on on pulling the trigger on a beautiful Z4 s20i in Misano blue at a discounted stock price but not fully loaded with options. In particular, it misses the M adaptive dumpers, M brakes, HK sound system, driving assistant and parking assistant packs (it only has front/rear sensors).

Do you think any of these will be a real miss? Even in terms of resale potential? I guess the m brakes it’s the only one in the list that can be retrofitted?

I am tempted because the price is good and the car is in stock but if I were to order any other higher spec s20i or s30i I will only receive it in mid-august, when summer it’s almost over.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Do you have the M Sport package?
The car looks very different on the outside if compared with the basic style.
Fenders and side skirts are different.

Personally would not get a car without the dampers & brakes. Wait till August there will be a lot more summers.

I concur on waiting for/ordering the right car. The wait will seem long, but down the line, all you'll remember is that it was worthwhile because you got exactly what you wanted.

Been working on trying to buy one since August 2020. All kinds of bullshit got in the way - Covid delays, no allocations, etc. Did a custom build. It's in, just need to pick it up from the dealership.

Discounts include $500 off with USAA/BMW financing at 1.49% and will apply for the CCA $500 discount. Bought the car at invoice or 6% off MSRP.

Tracking the ship from Germany to Belgium, UK, Brunswick and finally to Galveston was a hoot. Last time I looked it was on its way to Veracruz Mexico.

Get the car and enjoy your summer cruising. You can always sell it or run your lease out and order a custom build later. I've got some of the options you will be without and honestly I don't thing you'll miss them. The basic setup of a great looking car that handles well and gives you the top down experience won't change if you're missing an option or two.

I agree 100%. The sport plus option is awesome!
Love the sound and I'm not disappointed I didn't get the M40i one bit.

I have a 2019 3.0i with the M-sport package, no M brakes or adaptive dampers (2019 they were separate options) and I dont miss them. I had the adjustable dampers on My C7 Corvettes and M92 M3 and after playing with them a few times I left them on one setting 99% of the time.

I'm not tracking or trying to set any records, most of the roads around here are twisty and curvy mountain roads and the little Z4 does just fine.

Standard radio sounds good enough to me but I drive it 90% of the time with the top down so I dont think I could tell the difference. I dont use the auto parking assistant, or other driving assistant so I wouldn't miss them if I didnt have them.

I got a great deal on this car, was a leftover '19, would have liked a loaded 4.0 but I could not pass up the deal on this one.

I've just ordered mine and I've gone for the parking package. The rearward visibility isn't great with the top up and as an oldie I don't find it as easy to twist my neck round as I did when I was younger so manoeuvring in a busy car park is easier with a reversing camera

I thought they all came standard with a backup camera and parking sensors, maybe not in UK. Mine also has the auto parking stuff that I never use. Not a huge fan of the park distance control sensors since they dont 'see' most curbs, front or rear.

Park distance is overly sensitive - I get the dreaded death knell tone every time I pull into my garage even though I've got at least three inches of clearance on the passenger side. I think they should have saved that tone for impending touching (1/2 to 1 inch). It's really tough to creep forward listening to that sound.

I have yet to use the parking stuff and probably never will. I do use the backward driving retrace. It's kind of neat and helps in those tight backup situations.

I've been driving a 630D for three years and that has the self parking stuff but I've always been too nervous about it not working and crashing into another car so I've never used it.

I think that the specs are slightly different for UK and US cars as reversing cameras are extra in the UK

I would wait too

Don't get this car without the M adaptive suspension. It makes the car way more pleasant to drive. My wife hates the car in sport or sport plus mode but in Comfort she's fine. There really is a huge difference in how the car drives in different settings. Id be afraid to let BMW pick the set up and then later I cant change it.

My 2 cents, order what you want and enjoy. A car is a large purchase and life is too short to short change yourself.
