BMW iNEXT spied testing on the Nurburgring

BIMMERPOST NEWS
BMW iNEXT testing on the Nurburgring

COMMENTS

The iNEXT has been spotted testing on the Nurburgring, ahead of its reveal next week (Nov 11). Event details @ https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1771723

Some details about I20 (iNEXT) from our future BMW info thread, per ynguldyn .
Production starts in July 2021. Two models are known at the moment. One will have 295hp, the other 430hp (potentially there could be three drivetrain versions but I only see two implemented right now). Both seem to be dual-motor. 20" to 22" wheels.

Option choices will be at the level of X5 (2-axle air suspension, soft close doors, Sky Lounge headliner, B&W audio, etc). A notable new option is called "BMW Natural Interaction" - as usual, we should expect this to show up on all higher end BMWs at approximately the same time in 2021.

Please don't let this be as big of a turd as the Audi e-tron.... It looks heavy enough to have a decent size battery pack.

I see it has a big grille. I assume it's needed for the extra cooling of the electric motor. Hmm.

I'm actually fine with the big grille. I just hope they make it look like a nice looking mainstream car with a normal BMW interior. Electric cars don't have to be weird. The range also needs to be 300+ miles to be relevant and competitive with the Tesla Model Y.

It looks dialed because it's going slow. It never slides as it's clearly not being pushed that hard. Probably out testing just for some fine tuning before production begins.

I'm excited to see it along with the specs. Might be my next DD. I've been sad ever since the 3er GT and Touring got the axe here in the States. All we have left are stupid high-riding SUVs.

I want a lower wagon-esque body w/ a ~114" wheelbase and a hatch that still has some ground clearance and a forgiving suspension for crappy Midwest roads. This iNext (will that be the actual production name?) might actually work for me, assuming it still drives like a BMW and isn't neutered power wise like the 4-cylinder Touring that we had to settle for. Price will certainly be a factor too. I have no desire to spend more than 3-series money, especially when EVs in the short-medium term will suffer from obsolescence like cell phones with 3-year lifecycles due to battery and charging tech moving so rapidly. These are going to be lease-only vehicles for most folks, I suspect.

Oh yeah, some towing capability would be fantastic too for those of us that dare to attach a camper or take a boat to the lake! Might as well put those torquey electric motors to good use!

I hate to say it, but if this ends up a total bust, I will be giving the Tesla Y a very hard look...

Or I might say screw EVs completely and buy a Honda Ridgeline (I know I know), which will serve me well and do everything I need it to for the next 10 years. No turbo, no batteries, no problems...they drive really well too now that they finally got that ZF 9-speed tuned!

What gets lost in all this EV circlejerk by the media is how these cars are consistently absolute boats. All that power and acceleration can't fight the physics of a massive curb weight.

But hey, publishing 0-60 times garners a hell of a lot more clicks than commentary on a car performs through the turns.
