Oil Change

Looks like the first recommended oil change is at 10,000 miles. To me this seems ridiculous. I have approximately 1500 miles and am thinking about paying for an oil change. Dealer has quoted $165.00 which seems high to me. Any thoughts?

Ask them if it's really just the oil change or their standard charge for a 'service' which may include tire rotation, checking all kinds of stuff, fluid too off, wiper blades, ...

$160 for just an oil change is rediculas and must include some other service. I have had my e90 oil changes at the dealer since day one and with a coupon usually pay $75.00, $100.00 without one. My e90 has had 15,000 mile oil change intervals since new, and I have never changed it less than that during it’s current 185,000 mile journey. Engine is clean and uses no oil between changes. I know BMW has changed their philosophy in recent years to a 10,000 interval which I plan to follow in our 2020 X5 currently at 7100 miles with no oil usage. Gone are the days of the 3500 mile oil changes with conventional oil!

Is there a time limit or just the 10,000 miles.... I can't remember. I'll have to look at the owner's manual again.

No way I'll get 10,000 miles in a year... probably more like 2 years.

I had my M40i in for the headlight recall, I told the SM I needed wiperblades he said he'd check the price and get back to me. I figured if it was 45-50 buck I'd be ok as I didn't have time to go to the auto parts store. He came back with a price of $135, I politely declined and ordered them on Amazon for $35. Unbelievable a $100 upcharge.

There most likely is a minimum time labor charge, regardless of how small or quick the job.

My Z4 was at its one year mark and showed it needed oil service. Since my Z4 only had 2400 miles at the time, I asked the dealer about it. The dealer did the oil change free of charge as the annual service.

10k miles or 12 months, depending on what's first.

Yep. I had my first oil change at 1792 miles. It should be a year from when the car was first delivered to a dealer. Not a year after you got it. That or 10,000 miles. My BMW Connected App gave me the alert.

A dealer in UK would charge £250 plus for an Oil Change here.
Also have a RR Evoque - dealer wants £540, which is just an oil change.

Yes it's mileage and/or time whichever is first; I ended up changing the oil at less than 2,000 kms on my Z4 and my Jag - it's a bit of a scam but it is what it is.

My 20i has an oil change period of 18 months or 19000 miles. Don’t know if it’s different in US.

2 years or 12000 miles for a 30i in southern Europe. Maybe because of the warm weather?.

In the U.S., it is part of the free 3-year maintenance. It costs me nothing. They come pick the car up, give me a loaner, and bring the car back when it is serviced.
