Personally, I think they’ve already gone too far with the badging. Having the M on there is ridiculous.
The beauty of a car like the Handschalter is that if you know you know. There’s more excitement in having to talk to the owner and ask if it’s a manual or having to walk up to the car in a parking lot and peering inside to spy the shifter. It’s more like unwrapping an amazing Christmas gift each time! |

Exactly, as long as all BMW's are being shipped with badges there is no reason why BMW shouldn't identify their “Edition Handschalter”. If people want to debadge their cars that is their right. On a Competition "M" car is says Competition on the rear badge in smaller letters. It could say Handschalter right underneath M40i on the rear badge. |

Think Westside Guys solution is best for anyone wanting an 6MT identifier.
Personally I think its a very, very small percentage of people care one way or another if a car has a manual transmision. The StingRay which had a 22% MT take rate was going to die when they dropped the stick with the C8. So what happened, 18 month waiting lists, Chevy adding shifts at the factory & they still have not caught up with the demand. Even at the two BMW sites I use Z4/M4 the 8ZF/6MT debate goes round & round. BMW PCD & PDS have dropped the MT because the students were breaking them. Have 3MT's currently none are BMW's & 3 BMW 6MT's in the past, but I am on the 8ZF side of the circle.

Had hopes for that as I was/am a StingRay fan. Drove a '67 435BHP 3X2 4MT Muncie StingRay Coupe for over 20 years. Was a regular commuter car Jersey Shore to Wall St.

Once I began looking for something it was Miata/F-Type/Z4 M40i. The Z4 seemed to be the Goldilocks with power, reliability, exclusivity, room, fun out of the cars I was considering. No regrets, would still love to drive a manual Z4 someday but the 8ZF has spoiled me too much to move on from it permanently. |

Its really funny what drives (no pun intended) the buying decision in a lot of cases. Had a lease running out on a 440 Coupe. Wanted to get a C8 but the potential lead times killed that.
Next thought was the then unreleased M4 Convertible. Saw a photo of #1 coming off the line. Picture of the Piggy killed that. Leased the Z4 to see what would happen over time. Got to see & drive a M440 G series coupe at a pre release BMW AutoX event in Raleigh. Said whoa this is really nice & in a dark paint with the black trim the grill is no issue. Decided I did not want to give up the Z4 so bought the lease out & Bought the M4C.

I bought the Z4 because I missed my Porsche 997.2 and couldn't find a 991 I liked, within my budget. I was tempted by an Audi R8 Spyder, but we ended up $3000 apart. With the Z4 I got a warranty, which I would not have got with either a Porsche or Audi.
