No Touchscreen on Future Z4s

Just read the following post:

https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/m...#post-13612082

The new screens on Z4s will not offer touchscreen capability with a $500 credit applied. Also, Backup Assistant will not be available.

Bells and whistles are taking a beating!

Agreed. It appears the 2021 will be the used cars to get in a few years. after that, the value will take a beating. Good news for us I suppose.

I have never used the Backup Assistant but I use my touchscreen all of the time. My wife who thinks she is a disc jockey also uses it to select songs from my Apple Music app.

My Z4 is a 2022 and I am really happy that my dealer found one the end of August at another dealer as opposed to me waiting to order one from Austria as I would most likely have been caught up in this technology shortage affecting many models.

This shortage may increase the resale value of our fully loaded cars.

I just noticed that the HUD is not available any longer:

"Please note that, due to supply restrictions, we are forced to remove option 610 Head-up Display for several models on which it was bundled within ZPP Premium Package. The affected models are base-engine variants of 2er Coupe & Gran Coupe, 3er, 4er Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe, Z4, X3 and X4. ZPP will be phased out and replaced with ZP2 Premium Package 2, which contains all of the same content as ZPP except option 610. Pricing and Ordering Guides will also be updated shortly."

Crazy!

Does anyone know when this takes effect. My car is finished and awaiting carrier assignment and has been for three weeks now. I'm hoping I got mine in under the wire.

I recommend that you contact your sales person and simply ask for a print out showing how the vehicle is equipped including all of the packages along with the Vin number.

Interestingly enough, the BMW website no longer shows the HUD on the Z4 page but it does still list the touchscreen as a feature under standard features/instrumentation.

Most likely they haven't updated their website with this new information.

I actually have that. I think I'm ok. On the MyGarage page it shows Awaiting for Carrier Assignment and it still shows the HUD as one of the options.

But the HUD has been removed from the website?

I have recently been considering an iPace as a sensible daily, they also are unable to supply HUD due to the chip shortage.

Go to the MyGarage on the BMW website and look at your build. If it is listed, you will have it.

Wow, that’s a real bummer. HUD was a must have for me and I use the touch screen all the time. Backup assist not so much.

It does raise an interesting question. Are they setting enough aside for repairs and replacements as the vehicles with HUDS fail?

It still seems like such a drastic decision. Have we really damaged our world economy and supply chain to the point that we are moving backwards in tech? Eventually these things will come back into supply, right?

I'm not surprised by any of the models on the touchscreen deletion list with the exception of the X5/6/7 vehicles.

I see them cutting this feature out of the "cheap" BMWs while leaving the option of the "expensive" models. Very odd they would remove it from all X5/6/7, and allow the 5/7/8 series to retain the touch option.

you would think they would do like the rest of the options they have been stripping over the last year and atleast retain it for top trim level (ie. M50i spec).

Atleast the guys buying the X5M and X6M will still get a touchscreen ... shit I wouldn't buy the vehicle without it ... especially with an MSRP north of $130k!!

So I guess that a Z4 M40i which is in the $70k range is now considered a cheap car.

Maybe it's a good thing to get rid of. A replacement touchscreen in a G29 will run you north of $4,000! Seems ridiculous that a replacement screen should cost 8% of the base MSRP.

And you can't just say you'll live without it if it breaks - how will you check your oil level?!!!

Forget oil level, how would you break it?

Not really cheap but also not far from entry level BMW. Tremendous performance and value. Part of its greatness in a way.
