As echoed by others here who have experienced delays (me included), the car is worth the wait - there's nothing quite like it on the market - so hang in there.
If you opted for the harman/kardon audio system, you are in for a treat as it sounds great.

I second the motion about the HK audio system. One tip is to download lossless audio music on your phone as it will sound light years better than simply listening to a radio station.

I rip my own CDs using ALAC (Apple Lossless) or you can also rip your CD’s to FLAC (an open-source lossless format) to store on your hard drive. I then transfer these lossless recordings to my iPhone to play in the car using Apple CarPlay.

I just checked and a ship which is going to the west coast is in Bremerhaven now. I hope my car gets on this ship even though my car is waiting for RAM. Then maybe the RAM will be waiting at the west coast port when my car gets there.

I also wish BMW would have better communications with its customers.

I did order the Harman/Kardon audio system and agree with CJ421! I have one in my 2002 M Roadster and even though I'm not an audiophile I do recognize it when an audio system is doing a great job.

I'm feeling your pain. Same thing happened with mine as well. Order placed 3rd week of April. Received after a 12 week wait in July. My shiny toy was locked up in Georgia awaiting its RAM for about 4 out of the 12 weeks. To say I was happy to drive it off the lot is an understatement.

Silver lining: during the wait, the value of my trade increased by $2k so I renegotiated.

The car was well worth the wait.

The module that BMW is apparently waiting for is what is called an ECU. These are electronic control units that are made up of a bunch of microchips. Some of the carmakers are delivering uncompleted cars to yards waiting final parts and when the ECU is delivered by their Tier 1 supplier to the yard they can pop the hood and basically plug in the ECU and program the car at the dealer. and its good to go. Better than them not building the car at all.

What's going on, does BMW have a few dozen mechanics living in hotels waiting to install a bunch of modules and finish building the cars?

It seems nuts to me.

Did you ever get a quote from Carmax? They offered me $2k more than my dealer did.

Nope! I made sure of that!!

I negotiated that price first, then negotiated my trade. During that time my SA (sort of jokingly) mentioned that "if the value of your car goes up while you're waiting for delivery we'll honor that". We knew when I ordered the Z4 that the turnaround time would be about 6 weeks (that turned into 12 weeks). I was concerned that the dealer would decrease the value of my trade because of miles, wear/tear, etc.

The week of delivery I checked Carmax/Edmunds, etc and used their numbers to renegotiate my trade.

So even though I was frustrated about having to wait so long it really did work out in my favor.

Well my wait was about 4 weeks I just got an email from my salesman that my car has been released to the trucking company. I haven’t been this excited since I don’t know when. The wait will soon be over.
